Plan a wedding in Umbria

At Nikis Resort, the church frescoes are by a follower of Giotto, and the 13 stone rooms, including the Torre suite in the tower, sleep up to 55 guests. The team also arranges truffle hunting and sommelier tastings between events.

At San Pietro Sopra le Acque, guests have a spa with sauna and hammam, and the abbey of Santi Fidenzio e Terenzio is about 1 km away. Every outdoor setting has a covered alternative, so you can plan an open-air day without staking it on the forecast.

Get your guests to Umbria

Your guests will want to know these before they book flights.

  • Nearest airport: Perugia San Francesco d'Assisi Umbria International Airport (PEG) has flights from London Stansted on Ryanair and seasonal London Heathrow flights on British Airways. Rome Fiumicino (FCO) is the main long-haul gateway.
  • Transfer: From Rome, the drive to Assisi takes about 2 hours, and both estates need a car or private transfer for the last stretch.

Questions couples ask about marrying in Umbria

Why choose Umbria over Tuscany for a wedding?+
For the same hill towns, vineyards and stone farmhouses with fewer visitors. Umbria is landlocked and known as the green heart of Italy, with towns such as Spello and Todi and a long tradition of black truffles. Many venues also sit closer to Rome, which can shorten transfers for guests on long-haul flights.
Do we need an Atto Notorio to marry legally in Umbria?+
Yes, along with a nulla osta signed in Italy, before a civil ceremony with the local comune, the same process as elsewhere in Italy. Each town hall decides its own ceremony rooms and dates, so we contact the comune for your chosen town early, before you lock in the venue and the date.
What ceremony styles can we choose in Umbria?+
Catholic, civil, symbolic or Celtic, all on one estate at San Pietro Sopra le Acque near Massa Martana. A Catholic ceremony can take place in the estate's own church, a smaller one in the Rose Garden, and a larger one in the Major Garden, where the banquet follows in the same open-air setting. Afterwards guests gather among the old ruins for aperitivo and photographs.
Can we spread our Umbria wedding over a whole weekend?+
Yes. San Pietro Sopra le Acque plans its spaces around a welcome dinner the night before, the ceremony, aperitivo, the banquet, the party and a pool party the next day in its swimming pool park. With exclusive use of the estate, the whole weekend runs at your pace.
Can we hold a wedding at a medieval fortress in Umbria?+
Yes, at Nikis Resort near Gubbio, a restored hamlet with a defensive fortress and lookout tower. You can marry outdoors beside the fortress, with the church as the indoor choice for 25 to 120 guests. Drinks follow in the gardens and courtyards as the sun sets over the Umbrian and Tuscan hills.
