How Much Does a Maldives Honeymoon Package Cost in 2026?

A Maldives honeymoon for two usually costs $6,000 to $12,000 for five to seven nights, including flights, villa, transfers and taxes. The honest range runs from about $3,500 to $35,000 depending on the island. Taxes and service charge add roughly 31 per cent to any advertised room rate, and a seaplane transfer adds $920 to $1,300 per couple.

You've probably already found the photo. Overwater villa, ladder into water so clear it looks edited, nightly rate that seems almost reasonable for the once-in-a-lifetime thing you're planning.

That rate isn't the price.

Between the tax the resort adds, the tax the government adds, the service charge that's mandatory by law, and the seaplane that carries you from the airport to the island, the number on the booking page is usually 30 to 40 per cent short of what leaves your account. None of that is a scam. It's just quoted separately, and almost nobody adds it up for you before you've fallen in love with a villa.

So here's the arithmetic, honestly. What couples actually spend, what the taxes really are in 2026, and the one cost that should change how long you stay.

What are the key Maldives honeymoon costs to know?

Most couples spend $6,000 to $12,000 for a 5 to 7 night Maldives honeymoon, though the honest range runs from about $3,500 to $35,000 depending on the island you pick.
Taxes and service charge add roughly 31 per cent to any published room rate. TGST rose to 17 per cent on 1 July 2025, and a lot of the advice still online quotes the old 16.
Green Tax doubled to $12 per person per night in January 2025. On a 7 night trip for two, that's $168 before anyone pours a drink.
The seaplane transfer costs $920 to $1,300 per couple and doesn't get cheaper the longer you stay, which is the strongest argument against a short Maldives trip.

How much does a Maldives honeymoon cost for a couple?

Most couples land between $6,000 and $12,000 for five to seven nights, all in, for two people (IM Maldives, updated May 2026). The full spread is much wider than that, because "the Maldives" covers a $180 beach villa and an $1,800 water retreat in the same sentence.

Where that money goes is fairly consistent no matter which tier you're in. Accommodation takes 40 to 55 per cent, taxes and fees take 15 to 25 per cent, flights take 10 to 20 per cent, and transfers, dining and everything else split what's left.

That second line is the one worth staring at. Tax is your second largest cost after the room itself, ahead of the flights that got you there.

What taxes are added on top of the room rate?

There are three, they're separate, and only one of them is a percentage of what you spend.

Tourism Goods and Services Tax, 17 per cent. This is the one most articles get wrong. TGST went from 16 to 17 per cent on 1 July 2025, under the Seventh Amendment to the Goods and Services Tax Act, ratified in November 2024 (Travel Trade Maldives, 1 July 2025). If a guide quotes you 16, it was written before that and probably hasn't been touched since.

Green Tax, $12 per person per night. A flat environmental levy at resorts, and it doubled from $6 on 1 January 2025. It applies per person, per night, whether you spend the day diving or asleep. Children under two are exempt.

Service charge, 10 per cent. Mandatory by law and distributed to resort staff. It isn't a tip, it isn't optional, and it isn't included in the headline rate.

Here's what that does to a real booking. Take a $500 a night room, seven nights, two people, and assume $150 a day in food and drink beyond what's included:

That's $1,397 on top of a $3,500 room, or 31 per cent (IM Maldives, updated August 2026). TGST and service charge are both calculated on the base price rather than compounding on each other, which is a small mercy.

The practical move: when you're comparing two resorts, multiply every advertised rate by about 1.3 before you compare them. The gap between two islands often looks smaller in the brochure than it does on the invoice.

How much do Maldives seaplane and speedboat transfers really cost?

Nobody flies straight to their island. Velana International is on one atoll and your resort is on another, so there's a second journey, and it's priced like a separate holiday.

Speedboat: $150 to $200 per couple, round trip. Usually for resorts within an hour or so of the airport.
Seaplane: $920 to $1,300 per couple, round trip. For anything further out, which includes most of the islands you've been picturing.

A seaplane can cost more than your flights. But the number that matters isn't the total, it's what happens when you divide it by the length of your trip, because the transfer costs the same whether you stay three nights or ten.

On three nights, a seaplane adds roughly $370 a night to your real cost. On ten, it's about $111. Same flight, same view, three times the efficiency.

This is why a short Maldives trip is usually poor value, and why couples who fly in for four nights often come home feeling the price didn't match the experience. It did match. They just paid a fixed cost across too few nights.

Two things follow. If you only have four or five nights, pick a resort you can reach by speedboat and put the $900 you save into a better villa. If you're going far out to a seaplane island, stay at least seven nights so the transfer stops dominating your per night cost.

Is a water villa worth more than a beach villa?

The villa choice moves your budget more than the resort's star rating does. Real 2026 rates give you a sense of the ladder:

A beach villa at a four star resort starts around $180 to $500. The step to a water villa is the big one, and the step from a water villa to a water villa with a private pool is the one most couples find hardest to justify after they've seen both. If you're choosing between a pool villa for five nights and a plain water villa for eight, take the eight. You'll swim in the ocean.

Is an all inclusive Maldives package worth the money?

Upgrading to all inclusive runs about $40 per person per night on top of your rate. Whether that's worth it comes down to one honest question: how much do you drink?

Resort food and drink in the Maldives is priced like an island with no competition, because it is one. If you're the kind of couple who'll have a cocktail before dinner and wine with it, all inclusive usually pays for itself. If you're happier with coffee and an early night, half board is the better number, and the money is better spent on the villa or the extra night.

Read the inclusions properly before you decide. Packages differ on whether they cover premium spirits, house wine only, à la carte restaurants or just the buffet, and excursions. Two resorts advertising "all inclusive" at the same price can be genuinely different products.

How many nights should you book in the Maldives?

Seven, if you're going seaplane. Five is fine if you're on a speedboat island. Three is almost always a mistake, not because it's too short to enjoy but because the fixed costs, the flights and the transfer, get spread across too little holiday.

If you're combining the Maldives with somewhere else, and plenty of couples fly through Dubai, Singapore or Colombo, the Maldives leg works better as the longer half. It's the part you've paid a transfer to reach.
