INTERVIEW: INES DI SANTO ON ROMANCE AND A GOOD ESPRESSO

INTERVIEW: INES DI SANTO ON ROMANCE AND A GOOD ESPRESSO

Ines Di Santo first launched her brand in 1984 in Toronto, Canada, providing brides the opportunity to have their own couture wedding gown that combined both glamour and femininity. The brand has now expanded to become a family affair with Ines’ daughter Veronica working alongside her to add more modern and surprising touches to the gowns, including art deco designs and pastel palettes. Together, Ines and Veronica have led the Ines Di Santo brand to be one of the most recognisable in the world and Wedded Wonderland had the chance to chat with them about their Spring 2016 Bridal Collection.

Wedded Wonderland’s exclusive Spring Collection sketch

WW: What was the inspiration behind your new Spring 2016 Collection?

Ines: This season, I was inspired by 16th century art, fashion and European gardens.

WW: What’s your favourite piece of the collection and why?

Ines: The dramatic ball gown with very intricate French lace.

WW: What are the biggest bridal trends in the North America at the moment?

Ines: Sleek slim silhouettes with longer, extended trains and sheer necklines.

WW: What has been the biggest moment of your career so far?

Ines: When I first designed for a celebrity who was getting married, it was a huge moment for me. But I just launched an evening-wear collection and it is just as big and exciting!

WW: Describe your ideal bride.

Ines: A bride who is sophisticated and feminine; one who appreciates a gown marked by superb fit, originality and inimitable construction. She most definitely enjoys elegance and glamour in a design.

WW: Describe the new collection in three words.

Ines: Light, intricate and romantic.

WW: What’s the most important thing a bride should remember on her wedding day?

Ines: Most important is to stay focused on what this meaningful event means to you and to stop and enjoy the moment: remember to take it all in.

WW: How do you believe brides know when they’ve picked the right dress?

Ines: There is definitely an “ah-ha” moment: when she knows the dress highlights all of her best assets and represents the look and feeling that she has always envisioned for herself.

WW: Have you got any surprises with this collection?

Ines: Yes, but if I told you it wouldn’t be a surprise!

WW: What’s the most stressful part of launching a collection?

Ines: Setting trends that are unique and original.

WW: On the day of the collection, you must be exhausted. Do you have any insider tips to staying alert and energetic?

Ines: Lots of prayer, support from friends and family, and lots of espresso!
