How To: Celebrate Your Original Wedding Date

Postponing your wedding may mean waiting even longer to marry the love of your life, but it also means saying goodbye to a date you’ve looked forward to for so long. If you’re feeling down as your original date creeps up on you, don’t let it go by in a flash!

We have put together some special ways to mark the occasion and celebrate what would have been, and what will be! Come on Fairies, grab your partner and celebrate your love in a joyous way.

Get Away With Some Bubbly

“We went away to The Star to get away for the night. I wanted to be away from normality for the evening. I didn’t expect to feel as affected as I did on the original date, so I’m glad we had a change of scenery to take our mind off it. We don’t have a new date yet as Ben’s cricket schedule is yet to be released, so hard to lock in the venue and all the vendors when we have no concrete idea of what our work looks like from here forward.

My advice to other affected couples would be to address the feelings early in the day (I had a good cry mid-morning!) and let everything out. Then head out somewhere different, doesn’t matter where it is, and celebrate the fact that we are even blessed enough to have someone in our lives we love enough to have a wedding to miss. At the end of the day, Covid has taught me how important people are to me. So I’ll wait until I can have all of the ones I love safely together, under the one roof. “

Eat A Mini Wedding Cake

Remember that five-tier chocolate cake with caramel filling and vanilla buttercream you’ve been patiently waiting to enjoy for months now? Don’t wait until your new wedding date to satisfy your craving! Order a smaller version of your wedding cake and indulge with your partner!

Plan Your Honeymoon

Go on, Fairies – daydream about that vacation! Use your original wedding date to research different sightseeing tours, restaurants and hotels that your dream destination has to offer!

Have A Car Parade

We understand that having all of your loved ones in one space right now is quite hard. Which is why we suggest that you invite them to a car parade! Simply ask your favourite people to drive by your home at a specific time to wish you well, and spend a few minutes together. This is a definite spirit-lifter!

Exchange Love Letters

Your wedding day is all about celebrating the special love that your partner and yourself share. And there’s nothing better than thinking about that special love on what would have been your special day. This will ensure that you remain happy and excited, and looking forward to the new date!

P.S. Don’t spoil your vows!

Have A Virtual Celebration

Organise a group Zoom call or individual FaceTime calls with those you love the most, and have a little virtual get together. It might not be the same, but it can lift your spirits just as well!

Watch Your Parents’ Wedding Videos

While you’ll have to wait just a little bit longer for your own wedding video, why not watch your parents’ video for the time being? Cherish those who brought you up, and get inspired by the past generations and wedding styles! Who knows, you might even decide to incorporate some of those older elements into your own wedding day!

Reminisce On The Memories

Go back to the spot where you first met, visit the restaurant of your first date and make a photo album of your favourite memories together! Celebrate your love and remind yourselves that the special day will be incredible!

Pose For Photos

Have a mini-session with your photographer and your fiancé, and have something to commemorate the day! Pose in your backyard, the local gardens, or even your couch! Speak with your photographer about what your options are at the time of your original date.
