Here’s What Meghan Markle’s Dad Has to Say About the Royal Wedding and Prince Harry

Just like most weddings, the royal wedding happened with some heavy family drama (royals, they are just like us). It was announced last minute that Meghan Markle’s dad, Thomas Markle, 73, was unable to walk her daughter down the aisle, after suffering from a heart attack. Meghan then asked her father-in-law to be, Prince Charles for the honor of walking her down the aisle.

While the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are keeping things tight-lipped, the father of the bride had no problem in sharing his opinions on the newly wedded couple.

He told Good Morning Britain That Meghan Cried Days Before The Wedding.

The father of the bride revealed to Good Morning Britain that Meghan cried after he broke the news that he won’t be able to attend the royal wedding.

He said, “I wanted to walk my daughter down the aisle. I wanted that moment. But I’m thankful for everything the way it went. I was very proud. I was very upset that it wasn’t me but the whole world was watching my daughter. I was very happy about that.”

He goes on to say, “The unfortunate thing is I am now a footnote in one of the greatest moments in history rather than the dad walking her down the aisle.”

Thomas Markle has yet to meet Prince Harry.

The royal wedding was set to be the first meeting of Prince Harry and Thomas Markle, which as we all know didn’t happen.

However, Markle did spill that he’s spoken to Prince Harry multiple times on the phone and shared the adorable way Meghan told his father about dating a prince.

“The first phone calls [with Meghan] were, ‘Daddy, I have a new boyfriend,’ and I said, ‘That’s really nice,’ and then the next call was, ‘He’s British,’ and I said, ‘Well, that’s really nice,’ and eventually the third time around was like, ‘He’s a prince,’ and at that point she said, ‘It’s Harry,’ and I said, ‘Oh Harry. Okay.’ And she said, ’Of course, we’ll have to call him “H” so no one knows that we’re talking about Harry. It’s H.’”

He thinks Prince Harry is the lucky one.

In typical dad fashion, Markle noted, “He’s great, he’s an interesting guy – he’s a prince. [But] my daughter has been a princess since the day she was born.”

Prince Harry asked for Meghan’s hand in marriage.

In the tell-all interview, Markle also revealed that Prince Harry asked for Meghan’s hand in marriage.

“Harry asked for her hand on the phone and I said: You are a gentleman, promise me you will never raise your hand against my daughter and of course I will grant you permission.”

He expects to be a grandfather very soon.

Markle also shared his thoughts as to when the Duke and Duchess are planning on having kids (thanks Dad). He shares that Meghan has wanted children for a long time and speculates that a royal baby could soon be on the way.

All we can say is, our countdown for the royal baby is on.
