Short notice wedding planning works when the decisions come in the right order. Work backwards from the few things that can't be rushed. They are the legal notice window, the gown, a venue and photographer free on your date, and guests who need to fly in. Florals, music, stationery and the menu have shorter lead times and fit around them.

Six months is enough for most weddings. A large guest list, several events or a peak-season date abroad is tighter, so sign the venue and your guests' rooms in the first fortnight, or move the date. With eight months or more the order stays the same, and the extra time buys a standard made-to-order gown. Through Wedded Concierge, your Wedded Advisor keeps that order with you, week by week.
Take them in this order:

An open date at a sought-after venue or studio usually has a plain reason, and you want to hear it. Ask these questions before you sign:
Can I see a complete recent wedding, not a highlights reel, from a setting like mine?
Who turns up on the day: you, or an associate?
Will you hold the date in writing, and for how long?
Why is the date free? A weekday, a cancellation or a quieter month is a good answer. A vague one isn’t.
For a venue, is the contract in my language, and what are the payment and cancellation dates?

For the venue, the photographer and the gown, write down your second choice and the date on which you switch to it. If the first choice hasn't confirmed by then, you move without reopening the whole search.
Read the deposit clause before you pay, and ask who pays if the date moves. Few makers publish a rush or priority fee, so ask for it in writing with the payment dates. Some houses start work the day the deposit lands. Karen Willis Holmes states that deposits are non-refundable and production begins from the time of payment.
Most countries set a minimum notice period for marriage, and many set a maximum. Look up both ends this week and give notice as soon as the window opens. Each market's numbers are under "Where you marry" below.
Expiry matters as much as the minimum. Italy treats documents from outside the EU as valid for six months from the date of issue, so papers ordered in week one can lapse before the wedding.
The gown has the longest fixed lead time of anything on the list. Pronovias recommends ordering 8 to 10 months ahead. Kleinfeld advises 9 to 12 months, and says some designers can take rush orders in as little as 4 to 10 weeks, depending on the style and availability.

With six months, four routes work:
A made-to-order house that puts your delivery date in writing, at least four weeks before the wedding.
A rush or priority service, which some designers offer for an extra fee. Ask whether fittings are still included.
A gown you take home the same day. Pronovias keeps off-the-rack dresses for short-notice weddings, and Kleinfeld sells sample and pre-owned gowns, so alterations start at once.
A couture house willing to compress its schedule. Few publish one, so ask on the first call, before you fall for a design that needs a year.
Book your seamstress the week you order. The same rule holds for a hand-embroidered lehenga, a sherwani or a bespoke suit. Ask the maker for the delivery date in writing before you pay.
Long-haul guests need leave approved and flights booked before peak-season seats go, so they hear the date before any stationery. Once the venue signs, send a short personal note with the date and place, then a guest website with rooms near the venue and the nearest airports. Guests who need visas should have their letters in the first month.

The formal invitation follows the contract. Smythson suggests sending invitations up to six months ahead for a destination wedding or a date in a busy holiday period, and ordering at least a month before you send. Save-the-dates usually go 6 to 12 months ahead, so at six months the personal note does that job.
At four months, custom design is tight. The Bombay Lettering Company and Akansha Design Studio quote 6 to 12 weeks for design before printing, and both say adapting one of their earlier designs is faster.
Abroad, the paperwork and the rooms near the venue run out first, so start both the week the venue signs.

A legal signing at home in the weeks before you fly leaves the ceremony abroad free to be symbolic, with no translated papers or foreign registrar. If you would rather marry legally abroad, start the paperwork in month one and order each document with its expiry in mind.
Town halls fill too. The US Embassy in Italy warns of waiting lists in May, June and September. Ask an Italian planner on the Wedded Marketplace, such as Roberta Torresan, which town halls still have your month. The Italy destination wedding guide covers the rest.
For a large or multi-day wedding in peak season, rooms near the venue can run out before anything else. Ask the venue or the nearest hotel how many rooms it will hold, until what date, and what happens to rooms guests don't take. Where the wedding runs over several days, give each event, such as a welcome dinner or a mehndi, its own venue hold, date and suppliers. Ask every venue about halal or alcohol-free menus where your guests need them.
Anything you ship ahead, such as stationery or return gifts, needs a named person at the venue to receive it. Ask your airline whether the gown can travel in the cabin, and book someone at the destination to steam it on arrival.
Airport security treats perfume and oils as liquids, so oud, attar and fragrance gifts belong in checked luggage. The gifts that travel easily are made pieces, such as a silk potli, a small silver keepsake or a printed scarf.
Each month below assumes the venue, photographer and gown appointment were settled in the first fortnight.

Sign the venue, then the photographer within the same week.
Decide where the legal marriage happens, and give notice as soon as your window opens.
Order or buy the gown, and book the seamstress.
Send travelling guests a personal note, and hold their rooms for a large or multi-day wedding.
Book the caterer, if the venue doesn't set one, and the celebrant or officiant.
Launch the guest website with RSVP, if it isn't already up.
Place any separate cultural events on the calendar, each with its own suppliers.
Choose favours or return gifts, and order tiered family gifts now. Choose one for elders and another for friends. IKLEKTIK INK Design Studio recommends ordering 6 to 8 weeks ahead, and may take a rush order depending on availability.
For a peak-season date abroad, book the florist and guest transfers now, as local suppliers fill first.
Book the music, hair and make-up, and the florist if it isn’t booked.
Order the rings, and ask about sizing and engraving times up front. Ernesto Buono Fine Jewellery says most custom pieces take 4 to 6 weeks.
Design and order the invitation.
Make one planning visit that combines the site walk, the tasting and supplier meetings.
Send the invitations.
Book or confirm guest transport.
Have the first fitting, if your gown route allows.
Agree the ceremony time with your photographer, then write the run sheet around the light.
Hold one joint call with the venue, photographer, caterer and celebrant.
Gather legal documents now if they expire after a set period.
Attend the main fittings.
Give final numbers by the date in your venue contract.
Hand every legal document to one named person who travels with them.
Have the final fitting and collect the gown.
For the last few weeks, work from the last minute wedding checklist and 11 last minute wedding to-dos.
On a short plan, the details that slip are the ones kept in three places: a spreadsheet, a group chat and a notes app. Wonderland Studio is Wedded Wonderland's free planning suite, with 11 tools under one login, no credit card and no trial clock. These are the tools a six-month plan leans on.

Travelling guests need the date, the place and the rooms near the venue in the first weeks. Studio's website builder has RSVP built in and six templates rooted in wedding traditions, so the site can go up the week the venue signs. Marigold & Gold is laid out for a mehndi, sangeet, baraat and the pheras, and Emerald & Oud for a henna night, the nikah and a zaffe.
Replies, plus-ones and dietary notes go straight into your guest list as they arrive. That gives you a live count for the final-numbers date in your venue contract, and a list of the vegetarian, halal or allergy needs the caterer has to plan for. Seating and the menu planner sit with the same list, so a late change reaches both.

You can import the spreadsheet you already have, invite guests by email or with a link, and ask the list who is still to reply.
A compressed plan puts several deposits into a few weeks. The budget tracker logs each one and shows what is left in every category, so you see a rush fee or priority service against the rest of the plan before you agree to it. You can also ask it what you haven't budgeted for yet.

The checklist sets tasks month by month, the same rhythm as the plan above. The run sheet lays out the day minute by minute and can be shared with family and every supplier, so the joint call in month two starts with everyone on the same times.

Studio's Start a checklist template builds a list with due dates, ordered by what comes first, and quick prompts such as Next 30 days and Final week narrow it to what is due now. The run sheet can also be printed or saved as a PDF for suppliers who want paper.
Shortlist from the vetted Wedded Marketplace network and keep every booking together, with your second choice on the same shortlist as your first. You can share the account with your partner, and a planner who uses Wedded Wonderland can plan alongside you inside Studio.
The AI Planning Assistant answers questions on timing, budgets, destinations and etiquette at any hour. Studio's Wedding Planning Toolkit adds a Destination Wedding Checklist, a Cultural Weddings checklist and an Emergency Wedding Day checklist.
Studio is free for every couple. When you would rather hand the six months to someone, Wedded Concierge puts a Wedded Advisor on it.
These are the failures particular to a compressed plan:
A rush gown leaves little room for alterations, and Halfpenny London notes that some rush orders can't include fittings.
Papers left in a hotel safe never reach the registrar.
Suppliers booked at speed arrive on the day as strangers, which is what the joint call in month two prevents.
Give your Notice of Intended Marriage to an authorised celebrant at least one month before the wedding, such as Per Sempre in Sydney, so lodge it in month one. If travel or work leaves less than a month, a prescribed authority can approve a shorter notice.

To marry legally in Italy, each of you swears an Atto Notorio at an Italian consulate in Australia no earlier than six months before the wedding. On a six-month plan that window is already open, so book the consulate appointment this week.
In Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane, Karen Willis Holmes recommends 6 to 8 months, can sometimes work shorter because gowns are made in its own workroom, and keeps some styles in stock. In Melbourne, Leah S Designs sells any of its dresses off the rack when your size is in, and you take it home the same day.
The UAE's Astronomy Centre expects Ramadan 2027 to begin on about 8 February, Eid al-Fitr on 9 or 10 March, and Eid al-Adha on 16 or 17 May, pending the moon sighting. Check your guests' travel plans before you hold a date in either Eid week.

For a Sharia marriage contract, documents issued abroad must be attested and translated into Arabic, and both of you need a premarital medical certificate. Both take weeks, so start them in month one.
Where neither of you is Muslim, a civil ceremony in Abu Dhabi costs AED 300 for up to 10 working days, or AED 2,500 within one working day. Where one of you lives in Dubai, the emirate's civil marriage service issues a licence in 24 hours. Sign at either, and a Dubai ballroom can host the celebration. Fees change, so confirm when you apply.
To find a ballroom still free on your date, start with a Dubai planner on the Wedded Marketplace, such as Designlab Experience. More is in planning a wedding in Dubai.
In England and Wales, you give notice at least 29 days before the ceremony, after living in the registration district for seven days. A Church of England wedding needs banns read on three Sundays in the three months before, or a Common Licence where time is short. In London, Westminster holds its statutory ceremony with two witnesses, on set Wednesdays.

For a celebration abroad, give notice at least 29 days before that Wednesday and hold the signing before your flight.
Halfpenny London allows 6 to 8 months, may arrange a priority service under six months for an extra fee, and starts fittings 6 to 8 weeks out.
A New York City marriage licence is usually valid for 60 days, and the ceremony must be at least 24 hours after issue. For a City Hall signing before a celebration abroad, apply within 60 days of the signing, not at the six-month mark.

On a six-month plan, the risk is forty small decisions landing in one week. Through Wedded Concierge, your Wedded Advisor takes that week off your hands and plans and books the whole wedding in the right order, guest stays and the honeymoon included. If a planner already runs the day, we plan guest stays and the honeymoon around them.

Venues come from Wedded Wonderland's own listings, and suppliers from the Wedded Marketplace. For guests who fly, Wedded Privileges can add breakfast, credits and upgrades where available at Virtuoso, Four Seasons and Rosewood Elite properties. Benefits vary by property and booking. Eligibility and availability conditions apply.
