Cameron and Candace wanted their special day to encapsulate old world charm with an eclectic feel of old and new; a coming together of era’s gone by, reflecting on their past, the people in their lives and never forgetting where they came from.
Candace had her heart set on a venue that was completely unknown, somewhere that was somewhat untouched; and it was by chance they discovered Mandalay; a breathtaking property with landscaped Victorian gardens against an Australian native backdrop, hidden away in a valley in the Adelaide Hills.
Keeping with a nostalgic feel of past and present, the couple wanted as many elements as possible to showcase their personal bold style, using a neutral pallet with ascents of red reflective of the ANZAC Poppy, subtle undertones of baroque elegance in their table settings which complimented the hanging florals of baby’s-breath and Edison globes to create an intimate woodland feel. The couple also used items from their childhood as well as items that belonged to Cameron’s late dad and Candace’s late grandparents to set the scene, with every element holding a sentimental value.
“Cameron lost his dad to Cancer in 2014 and I had lost my grandparents a few years prior to that; they were our everything, people whose unconditional love helped us become who we are today; we knew how hard our day would be without them there. The ANZAC Poppy & Daffodil were highlighted throughout our day; a symbol of remembrance and love of those people we had lost.
“After the ceremony we went to the cemetery; this is something we had asked both our photographer and videographer to capture as out of everything on the day this was the most important to us; remembering them, their life and the wonderful people they were,” Candace told Wedded Wonderland. And the pictures depict a heart-warming story of raw emotion, heartache, as well as happiness with the couple’s family by their side.
Reflecting back on their special day, the couple told Wedded Wonderland, “The party continued into the early hours of the morning with friends and family still smiling, laughing and dancing like no one was watching; so unaware of what their presence meant; they were writing the next part of our story.”
Be inspired by this incredible wedding, Fairies!
