Simran and Stuart initially planned a simple, understated wedding, however this somehow turned into a four day wedding extravaganza like no other, incorporating both Simran’s Sikh culture and Stuart’s laid back style.
The week started with a Sangeet celebration, followed by a Henna ceremony, then the Sikh wedding ceremony and the final casual style wedding reception held at Bendooley Estate.
“It was the most fun week of our lives, we made sure that each day reflected different aspects of us, our family and cultures,” the couple told Wedded Wonderland.
“Marriage and a wedding was not important to us, but it was to Simran’s family as it reflected their culture and values. Initially we approached the wedding planning as a methodical exercise, it was a formality that we decided to go through with to show respect to family.
“It was only through experiencing the wedding itself we were surprised at how much we appreciated the idea of having a wedding as a celebration of two people, the families and traditions.”
Reflecting back on the most special moments of the night, Simran told Wedded Wonderland the choreographed dances were one of the absolute highlights. “I was a bundle of nervous energy before we had to start the performances, but as soon as we started the choreographed dances I felt an immediate sense of relief and from then I had the most fun and amazing time.” While for Stuart, the Sikh aspect of the wedding ignited emotions and a sense of reflection that he had never expected.
“I’d been kind of nervous thinking about our families meeting for the first time. Part of the Sikh ceremony involved walking four rounds around a holy book called the Guru Granth Sahib Ji while the priests recited wedding hymns. As we walked around the holy book I felt calm. A kind of meditative feeling of strength. After that it didn’t seem to matter much more about the two families meeting. I suppose I felt a kind of strength in us being a married couple from then on.”
Be inspired by this incredible wedding, Fairies!
