Arriving at The Maldives just after midnight, I was whisked from the island airport James Bond-style, in a speedboat. Flying through the ocean with only the moonlight as a guide, we pulled up at the jetty of Club Med Kani, the resort that would be my home for the next five nights.
To truly appreciate the beauty of The Maldives, you have to wait ‘til sunrise. Everywhere you look appears as though it’s been photoshopped and put through an Instagram filter. From the fine, white sand to the neon blue water, it’s picture perfect.
For the honeymooners, Club Med’s exclusive Manta space is a must-visit. A private section of the resort, Manta consists of 75 suites on stilts over the ocean, your own private concierge service a dedicate lounge with 360 views and as many mojitos as you like!
The beauty of a honeymoon at Club Med Kani is that there’s as much or as little to do as you like. Each day the resort offers a range of free activities from snorkelling, sunrise yoga, cooking demonstrations, gym classes and comedy nights, but if you truly want to spend time with your boo, you can lay out on your private ocean deck, work on the tan and occasionally slip into the tropical ocean water.
During your stay, you must add snorkelling to your ‘to-do’ list. Diving under the sea opens up another world and in The Maldives, it’s a world of brightly coloured coral, patterned fish of all shapes and sizes, seashores, turtles and manta rays.
For the foodies, Club Med Kani offers two restaurants. The Vehli, a buffet style restaurant which has a casual, relaxed vibe (perfect for refuelling after a morning of swimming) and The Kandu a reservation-only restaurant serving 3-course meals overlooking the reef.
To complete the celebrity experience, a day spent being pampered at Club Med Spa by Mandara is essential. Set up for couples, you can indulge in an hour-long oil massage, facial, manicure and also fix any last minute beauty disasters with a quick wax.
