Valerie Lungu’s engagement already had the kind of details that could launch a thousand Pinterest boards. A countryside setting, candlelit dinner, a crystal chandelier suspended beneath the open sky, live harp music and an oval-cut diamond made the proposal feel less like a surprise and more like a perfectly styled scene from a romantic film.
So naturally, the civil wedding had a lot to live up to.
And it did.
For her wedding to longtime partner Alex Gilka, the Romanian fashion influencer traded the sprawling countryside setting of her proposal for the historic architecture of Suter Palace Heritage Boutique Hotel in București. The result was elegant without feeling overly formal, romantic without becoming saccharine, and fashion-forward in a way that feels very Valerie.
The star of the day? A fitted lace bridal look, topped with an enormous ivory hat that deserves its own close-up.

Valerie’s civil wedding dress from Labarin Studio is proof that a civil ceremony does not automatically mean a simple dress.
The ivory gown features an intricate floral lace construction that follows the body closely, creating a fitted silhouette before falling into a softly trailing skirt. The look is particularly striking because of its structured bodice, which has a sculptural, almost peplum-like shape around the waist and hips.
The short sleeves keep the dress feeling fresh and unfussy, while the lace gives it plenty of texture. Rather than adding layers of tulle, elaborate beading or an enormous train, Valerie let the fabric itself do the work.
A traditional veil might have been the obvious choice, but Valerie went in a completely different direction with a dramatic wide-brimmed ivory hat.
The oversized silhouette frames her face while the clean, structured brim gives the romantic lace dress a decidedly fashion-editorial edge. From the front, it almost reads like a piece of couture millinery. From the back, the hat becomes a graphic finishing touch against her long, loose waves.
A soft bow detail at the back adds another layer of femininity without making the accessory feel overly sweet.

The couple chose Suter Palace Heritage Boutique Hotel in București, Romania, and the venue provided an appropriately grand backdrop for the celebration.
The architecture is filled with pale stone, sweeping staircases, arches and ornate balustrades. In the wedding photographs, those architectural details create a European old-world atmosphere without competing with the couple.
The ceremony itself was tucked into a lush garden courtyard. Cream-colored draping was gathered between trees to create a soft, intimate backdrop, while candles and floral arrangements filled the surrounding space.
And yes, their dog made an appearance.
If Valerie’s bridal look was clean and fashion-forward, the reception went in the opposite direction with plenty of colour and texture.
Long tables were covered in floral-print linens featuring oversized pink, cream and green blooms. Instead of a minimalist tablescape, the design leaned into a romantic garden aesthetic, with tall gold candlesticks, slender taper candles, glass candleholders and abundant arrangements spilling across the tables.
The florals brought in soft pinks, blush tones, cream, green foliage and deeper accents, creating a palette that felt almost like the garden had climbed onto the dining table.
The tall gold candelabras were particularly effective. Against the pale stone architecture, they added warmth and a touch of old-world glamour, while the patterned linens kept the setting from feeling too polished or stiff.
There is also something wonderfully unexpected about the floral tablecloth. It could easily have felt overly traditional, but paired with Valerie’s sleek lace dress and oversized hat, it became part of a much more fashion-conscious visual story.
Alex Gilka complemented Valerie’s statement-making look in a classic black tuxedo from Florentino Delure.
The formal black tailoring, crisp white shirt and bow tie kept the overall styling balanced. Valerie had the lace, the hat and the flowers, while Alex’s look stayed deliberately clean.
In the photographs, the contrast works especially well. His streamlined black tuxedo against her ivory lace creates that timeless black-and-white bridal combination, while the colourful reception décor brings the rest of the scene to life.
Because apparently the hat and the palace were not enough.
After the celebration, Valerie and Alex were photographed walking toward a vintage white car, with Valerie still wearing her lace gown and statement hat.
Another image places them inside a red convertible, with the bride holding her bouquet while the oversized hat partially obscures her face. The colour contrast is fantastic: ivory lace, black tailoring, red leather and soft garden-inspired flowers.
It gives the wedding a final cinematic chapter without feeling overly staged.
The wedding also included a few details that made the celebration feel personal rather than purely styled for photographs.
Valerie’s bouquet was loose and organic, filled with delicate greenery and soft pink and cream flowers. Her jewelry stayed minimal, allowing the dress and hat to remain the visual focus. Her makeup was fresh and luminous, while her long hair fell in relaxed waves beneath the structured headpiece.
The couple’s wedding rings also got their own close-up. Valerie’s ring stack catches the light against the colourful reception setting, while Alex wears a simple gold band, keeping the jewelry understated.
For dessert, the couple turned to Dolce Strati for their wedding cake, adding another piece to an already carefully considered celebration.
What makes Valerie Lungu’s wedding especially interesting is how naturally it follows the visual language of her proposal without simply repeating it.
The engagement was dreamy and atmospheric, built around candlelight, music and the surrounding countryside. The civil wedding kept that same sense of romance but translated it into architecture, fashion and garden-party details.
