On the Emmys red carpet in September 2025, E!'s Zuri Hall called the man beside Reba McEntire her fiancé. Reba is engaged to actor Rex Linn, her Happy's Place co-star, and the two are not married yet.

Rex proposed on Christmas Eve 2024 in Leiper's Fork, Tennessee, she later told People. They kept it to themselves for almost nine months.
Her own caption from that night gave nothing away. "Bobbie and Emmett hit the red carpet," she wrote on Instagram, using their characters' names. A representative confirmed the engagement to Today soon after.
They met in 1991, on a Kenny Rogers TV western. They didn't date until 2020.
Season 3 of Happy's Place premiered on NBC on 23 October 2026, and the headlines followed. If a "shocking split" story brought you here, that split belongs to Bobbie and Emmett on screen. Reba and Rex are still engaged, with no date set.
The proposal was all his doing. "It was up to him totally," she said.
On an afternoon drive, Rex suggested a stop by a creek, then asked: "I want to cross the finish line with you. Would you marry me?"
She was speechless for so long, she told USA Today, that Rex joked: "I thought I was gonna have to jump in the creek!" Her answer, as she recalled it: "Well, yes! YES!"
Then came the fires.
"We got engaged, then we were going to make the announcement when we got back to L.A. in January," she said, "and the fires happened. And it wasn't appropriate. We had to evacuate twice."
The time, she said, "never presented itself until the Emmys when it just happened."
The ring on her hand that night? Rose gold, set with black diamonds. "He had it designed from a jewelry store in Austin, Texas," she said at the Paley Honors Gala in November 2025. "She made my Longhorn necklaces also."
Rex had carried it once before. "We went to Africa last year … and he took the ring," she said in October 2025. Nothing came of it. Christmas Eve was different.
The Austin jeweller hasn't been named publicly, and no carat weight has been reported. Not that she fusses over it. "It sparkles all the time, and it doesn't matter that I don't think I've ever cleaned it."
Choosing black diamonds over a classic white stone was Rex reading her well. "He just knew that about me," she said. "I'm not a big diamond girl."
You may know Rex Linn as Sgt. Frank Tripp on CSI: Miami or Principal Peterson on Young Sheldon. On Happy's Place he plays Emmett, the tavern's soft-spoken cook.
The western was The Gambler Returns: The Luck of the Draw, and they stayed friends for almost three decades. A mutual friend, Ed Gaylord, kept them in touch, Fox News reported, and her guest role on Young Sheldon brought them back together.
The romance began in early 2020, mostly by phone. "We created an intimacy by texting and talking over the telephone," she said. The pandemic kept them apart from January until 16 June.
"We've been pretty much inseparable since June 16, 2020," she has said.
Then there are the nicknames. "He is 'Sugar Tot.' I'm 'Tater Tot,'" she said in 2023.
Her "Tater Tot" dates from a dinner where, by Rex's account, she "delved into them like a great white shark with ketchup." His came from her sister Susie.
She confirmed the relationship on her podcast in October 2020. Two weeks later, on 19 October 2020, Rex posted a photo with his own caption: "TATER TOT."
And for a while, she wasn't sure she would ever marry again.
Twice divorced, she said in 2024: "After the second one dissolved, I don't have much faith in… being bound by a piece of paper or a ring."
"But I'm truly committed to Rex, so if that's something he feels totally strong about, that's fine with me."
By October 2025, she sounded different: "I've never been loved by a man like Rex Linn." A month later: "I'm happier now than I've ever been in my life."
On his 69th birthday in November 2025, she posted: "Happy birthday to the love of my life!" She closed with his nickname: "Have a great birthday, Sugar Tot!!!!!"
Ask when, and the answer keeps coming back to work. "Have no idea when we're going to set a date. Work comes first, so we'll see," she said in November 2025.
At the Grammys on 1 February 2026, she gave E! News the reason. "Rex got picked up on Stick with Owen Wilson, so that pushed the wedding back. He says, 'Work comes first.'"
In May she told Extra that her granddogs, Watson and Belle, "may be the ring bearers or something like that." Rex said the wedding will be at their "great ranch in Tennessee."
Reba added: "Heck, we might be engaged 30 years before we get married, but we're okay with that, too."
By August, the status was plain. "We're just waiting until we have an open spot to have the wedding," she said. "Get it planned. Print those invitations."
Later that month, she told Entertainment Tonight what shape it will take. "It's not going to be a wedding day… it's going to have to be three or four days."
The animals are coming too: long-horned steers, donkeys, horses and dogs. "So it's going to be a very unusual wedding on the farm."
The guest list is the harder part. "Rex has his list, and I have my list, and if we leave anybody out, we're going to hurt somebody's feelings."
There is still no date. No officiant, guest count, dress or designer has been shared.
If your own celebration will run for days, two guest lists bring two more questions: who arrives which day, and where everyone sleeps. Wedded Concierge arranges travel and accommodation for guests flying in, and our destination wedding planning guide starts the thinking.
More celebrity weddings: Dove Cameron and Damiano David, Ben Barnes and Aubrey Cleland, Kylie Jenner at Jordyn Woods' wedding and more real weddings.
Rex asked to cross the finish line with her. Neither of them is racing to get there.
