If your 15th birthday party was a room full of girls, a trip to the DVD store and a feast of pizza and ice-cream cake, this article may come as a shock. Since the USA and Cuba have become friends again (they recently re-established diplomatic relations), more and more American girls of Cuban decent are flying to Cuba with their parents for elaborate, OTT 15th birthday parties (otherwise known as Quinceañeras).
These soirees include photo sessions (with multiple outfit changes), ball gowns, vintage cars and huge parties.
And, because Cuba is so much cheaper, big groups of family and friends are being flown over to be part of the celebrations!
The Associated Press photographed some of these teens as they were getting ready for their party and we’ve got to ask – Why are there eyebrows so groomed? How is their makeup so perfect? And, (the biggest) why didn’t I look that glam when I was a pimply teen?
