How They Met
In the age of social media, love stories can take unexpected twists and turns, leading to a beautiful destination called marriage. Such is the case for Malika and Robin, a couple whose journey began on Instagram. After a few months of on-and-off conversations, with a sprinkle of ghosting, fate intervened, and they decided to meet for a drink. Little did they know that this meeting would last for hours, closing down the bar and sparking a love story that would eventually lead them to the altar.

The Proposal
Robin’s proposal holds a special place in Malika’s heart. He chose to pop the question at her late grandfather’s favorite restaurant, Mr. Wong, as a way to honor his memory. The thoughtful gesture touched Malika deeply, and it was a testament to Robin’s understanding and love for her.
Planning The Wedding
When it came to planning their wedding, Malika and Robin knew they wanted to incorporate their own unique style and break away from cultural norms. One of their favorite elements was the Champagne Sundowner, a departure from the traditional post-ceremony luncheon. They wanted to create a day that was different from the usual customs, focusing on simplicity and attention to detail.
Malika and Robin’s wedding theme drew inspiration from both Old English and the popular Bridgerton style. This fusion allowed them to blend the regal atmosphere of India with their love for vintage experiences. The choice of pastel colors perfectly complemented the Hunter heat, creating a series of dining experiences that encourage mingling and enjoyment without the constraints of a traditional reception.
The Bride’s Lehenga
The centerpiece of any bride’s ensemble is her lehenga, and Malika’s choice was a true reflection of her personality and vision. Designed by Payal Keyal in India, her deep wine-colored lehenga captured her heart and her father’s immediate approval. Although Malika had initially aimed for a non-traditional look, she couldn’t resist the traditional and royal allure of this ensemble. Adorned with exquisite jewelry, she truly felt like a princess on her special day.
The Wedding Day
The ceremony and wedding took place at Anambah House, a venue that perfectly embodied the couple’s desired vintage vibe. This hidden gem, recommended by a family friend, CEO of Doltone, added an element of exclusivity to their celebration. Anambah House’s untouched 1800s interior, vintage entrance, and spacious grounds provided the ideal canvas for creating unique experiences throughout the day.
The afternoon kicked off with an Aperol bar and the enchanting melodies of a violinist, leading guests down to the post-sundowner vineyard at Anambah. The Champagne sundowner was a highlight of the evening, featuring a champagne bar and a custom Botanics Gin bar, adding a regal touch to the festivities. To delight the food enthusiasts among their guests, Malika and Robin curated a modern Indian menu by the renowned Restaurant Urban Tadka. The 22 roaming entrees throughout the night tantalized taste buds, followed by live Gelato, Indian mouth fresheners, and sweets. The celebration concluded with Lemencello shots, ensuring a memorable end to the night.
With an intimate wedding of over 100 guests, the couple fostered an atmosphere of camaraderie and familial warmth throughout the five events. By the time the sundowner arrived, the guests had formed a bond, making it feel like one big, joyful family coming together. The resulting photographs captured the essence of the night, filled with laughter and unforgettable memories.
What Made The Wedding Unique
Stepping away from cultural norms, the couple opted to select most of their vendors from outside the usual pool of suppliers within their cultural circle. They wanted a fresh perspective and were amazed by how these vendors embraced the nuances of their ceremony. Convincing their families of their choices proved challenging, especially when it came to their photographers, videographers, and stylist. However, the couple’s trust in their chosen vendors paid off, as the results exceeded their expectations. Their friends and guests were equally impressed, demonstrating that venturing beyond convention can yield remarkable outcomes
Advice To Future Brides
Reflecting on their wedding journey, Malika offers valuable advice to future brides. She emphasizes the importance of creating a list of non-negotiables early on, involving all decision-makers. Open communication about key components, rituals, and must-have moments helps to avoid surprises and conflicts later on. Understanding each family’s priorities and desires early on streamlines the planning process and minimizes potential disagreements.
Additionally, Malika highlights the significance of having an on-day wedding coordinator. This essential support person manages last-minute questions, oversees the run sheet, and handles any necessary logistics, allowing the couple and their families to fully immerse themselves in the celebration without unnecessary stress.
The Couples’ Favorite Moments
As Malika and Robin reminisce about their wedding, their favorite moment leading up to the big day stands out—the night before the ceremony in the enchanting Hunter Valley. Amidst the chaos and excitement, they managed to steal away for 20 minutes, relishing a quiet moment together. This cherished time allowed them to ground themselves and prepare for the next chapter of their lives.
