Solid colors at weddings have often been tied to themed celebrations, and let’s be honest, not everyone dreams of a lavish, extravagant affair with animated characters or movie-inspired references. But as the saying goes, “don’t knock it until you’ve tried it”—or until you’ve seen a stunning wedding photo on social media where solid colors have absolutely stolen the show, bringing the venue to life.

We’re witnessing a clear divide between two wedding styles: the traditional couple who has always envisioned a romantic, all-white, or neutral wedding, and the modern couple seeking a vibrant celebration that reflects their energetic vibe. It’s not about one being more enjoyable than the other, but rather about how a colorful palette can instantly set the tone for a lively, unforgettable event from the very beginning!

Solid colors in weddings have been reimagined, proving they can be just as elegant and chic as the classic all-white decor. Our Wedded Week partners, Christina Holt from Wedding Concepts and Ines Nanić from Dubrovnik Event, explain to us how vibrant hues—particularly purple—can be seamlessly incorporated into your special day and make a bold statement.

Why Solid Colors?

W: What makes solid colors such a popular choice for weddings in 2024?

C: We find pops of colours the reflection of couples’ personalities and their desire to bring a little more “spice & character” to their designs and celebrations. A mix of vibrant colours is the most popular trend – with a “hero colour” at the helm.

I: Associated with luxury, elegance, and romance, it’s a timeless choice that adds a touch of sophistication to any event. Purple, in particular, has long been a favorite in the world of wedding colors, and for good reason.

W: Are there specific shades that are trending this year?

I: In 2024, we’re seeing a renewed interest in this regal hue, with shades like lavender, lilac, and deep plum leading the charge. These tones offer a versatile palette that can be seamlessly integrated into various wedding themes, from vintage and rustic to modern and chic.

Purple Is the Hottest Color

W: How can couples incorporate purple into their wedding decor without overwhelming the overall aesthetic?

C: It’s important to keep a balance with different textures, layers and patterns. So never just using one single colour but a balanced mix throughout.

I: The key to using purple or solid colors in your wedding decor is balance. While it can be tempting to drench everything in your favorite shade, a more nuanced approach often yields the best results. You can also incorporate purple into floral arrangements and centerpieces while keeping the rest of the palette neutral or complementary.

"This year, the wedding scene is all about soft, romantic shades of purple, such as lavender, lilac, mauve, and deep plum. These shades can be seamlessly incorporated into various elements of the wedding, from floral arrangements and decor to bridesmaid dresses and table settings."

Florals and Bouquets: Hydrangeas In the Spotlight

W: Can you suggest some popular floral arrangements that feature purple as a primary color?

C: What many may not know is that favourite flowers such as roses, lilacs, anemones, dahlias, orchids, and hydrangeas—are all readily available in shades of purple. Personally, I love hydrangeas and a deep-hued bouquet a tightly styled bouquet. For a softer, more textured, or multi-toned look – purples are easily combined with whites, blushes, and greens.

I: When it comes to floral arrangements, purple flowers offer endless possibilities. A majority of florals come in different purple shades, allowing for various outcomes based on the client’s wishes. For lavish arrangements and installations, hydrangeas in different shades may be a great option, as their voluminous flowers are easy to work with and create grand installations when combined with other florals.

Solid Colors on Minimalist Weddings

W: Is purple a suitable choice for minimalist weddings?

C: Absolutely! With a strong statement colour like purple – less is often more and a modern minimalist look is ideal to let it shine in style.

I: Could be recommended for a minimalist wedding, but it should be used thoughtfully and in moderation, as minimalist weddings don’t always blend well with colors. However, different shades of purple, for instance, offer sophistication and versatility and can complement a minimalist aesthetic beautifully when balanced well. With a well-planned mood board, everything can be achieved.

Using Solid Colors Confidently

W: What are some strategies for couples to embrace and confidently use solid colors?

C: For couples who shy away from colourful florals, we encourage contrasts in other design elements. Imagine Chic bar structures, bespoke lounge elements during pre-drinks, gorgeous custom lampshades, colourful stationery in each place setting. A decor mock-up is vital as a “design play session” to showcase what is possible and involve the couple in the aesthetic choices firsthand.

I: Using a bold color like purple confidently requires thoughtful planning and coordination. Start by selecting one or two main shades and incorporate them throughout your wedding elements and wedding design. Mood boards can be incredibly helpful during the planning phase, and working with a wedding planner or decorator who understands the nuances of color coordination with local historical venues is crucial!
