Choose your venue in Leinster

These four castles and country houses each hold an offer with us for your ceremony and reception.

  • Ballykealey House

Say your vows beneath a century-old tulip tree in County Carlow, with the manor yours alone.

  • Huntington Castle

Say your vows along the 500-year-old Yew Walk of a family castle in Carlow, built in 1625.

  • Loughcrew Estate

Say your vows in a 17th-century open-air church in Meath, with 30 of you staying in the house.

  • Wilton Castle

Say your vows in castle ruins on the Boro River, then dine in the banqueting hall.

Plan a wedding in Leinster

Ceremony settings here go back centuries. Huntington Castle has a 14th-century abbey where you marry before a stone altar under old arches, and at Ballykealey House your guests can sit in a full circle around the garden fountain with the two of you in the middle. At Loughcrew, an avenue of lime trees leads to an outdoor ceremony in the gardens.

Dinner can be a long table for 24 in the Millhouse, a feast hall in the Loughcrew garden, or the whole party in the Ballykealey ballroom with a menu the kitchen builds with you. At Huntington, the first dance can move into the 17th-century Barn Theatre off the courtyard, rain or shine.

  • Your ceremony at Wilton Castle

Wooden dining table with mixed chairs below a brick arch.

  • Your dinner at Huntington Castle

Long reception table with white linen and flowers under an avenue of old yew trees.

  • The setting at Loughcrew Estate

View through a gateway to a drive lined with clipped conifers.

Get your guests to Leinster

Your guests will want to know these before they book flights.

  • Nearest airport: Dublin Airport (DUB), north of Dublin city, with direct flights from London, Dubai and Los Angeles
  • Transfer: From the airport, guests drive about an hour to Loughcrew in County Meath, or about two hours south to Wilton Castle near Enniscorthy.

Give your guests more of Leinster

Days around the wedding fill easily.

  • Book of Kells

See the medieval manuscript and the Long Room library at Trinity College Dublin.

  • Glendalough

Walk between the early medieval monastic site and its two lakes in the Wicklow Mountains.

  • Brú na Bóinne

Visit Newgrange and the other passage tombs of the Boyne Valley, older than the pyramids of Giza.

  • Kilkenny Castle

Explore the castle and its parkland, then the medieval lanes and pubs of Kilkenny city.

Questions couples ask about marrying in Leinster

Where do we give notice for a wedding in Leinster?+
At any HSE Civil Registration Service office, and you do not have to live in the area. Give at least 3 months' notice at an appointment you both attend. For a civil ceremony at a venue, contact the registration service in the county where the venue is, because registrars generally only marry couples in their own county.
Can guests visit Northern Ireland on the same trip as a Leinster wedding?+
Yes. Belfast is about 1 hour 45 minutes to 2 hours by coach from Dublin Airport, and the Enterprise train links Dublin and Belfast. Northern Ireland is part of the UK, so Australian and US guests need a UK Electronic Travel Authorisation before crossing, even though there are no checks at the land border.
Can we marry in a castle ruin in Ireland?+
Yes, at Wilton Castle near Enniscorthy in County Wexford, where one half of the castle is restored and the other is an open shell. Ceremonies inside the roofless half seat up to 85, with cover on hand if it rains. The restored half has seven bedrooms across four self-contained apartments, so close family can sleep in the castle itself.
Is there a church near our Leinster country house wedding?+
Yes, close to each of these venues. Loughcrew Estate has its own church on the grounds, St Oliver's, linked to the family of St Oliver Plunkett. Near Ballykealey House in Carlow, Ballon and Rathoe Catholic churches and the Church of Ireland church in Fenagh are about 10 minutes away, and Huntington Castle has two churches less than a mile away.
Can we marry under a 100-year-old tree in Leinster?+
Yes, at Ballykealey House in County Carlow, where the lawn ceremony sits beside one of the oldest tulip trees in Ireland. The estate covers 50 acres below the Blackstairs Mountains, and around 105 guests can stay on site, in the manor's 12 bedrooms and 15 two-storey lodges. Lodge guests can use the house, with dinner in the Oak Dining Room.
