Suits star Meghan Markle has finally spoken about her relationship with Prince Harry, sparking more rumours that a royal engagement is forthcoming. Will we see a new Princess enter the British Royal scene?
The two have gone to great lengths to keep their flourishing romance for the prying eyes of the public since Prince Harry announced it was official late last year. Even releasing a statement by the communications secretary entailing his unhappiness with the media and how his quote “girlfriend” was receiving unnecessary harassment.
Since then rumours have flown in here and there but nothing truly substantial, until now. Markle has opened up for the first time in an interview with Vanity Fair.
Currently at the center of an intense media storm, Markle has kept herself cool and collected. “It has its challenges, and it comes in waves—some days it can feel more challenging than others,” she says. “And right out of the gate it was surprising the way things changed. But I still have this support system all around me, and, of course, my boyfriend’s support”. Boyfriend Prince Harry has sent strong messages in his official statement about the media frenzy that seems to be following Markle “This is not a game – it is her life and his”.
“We’re two people who are really happy and in love”, Markle explains.
But could this mean a royal engagement is on the cards? Markle has hinted that they’d like to keep their love story private and keep away from the media spotlight for as long as they can. “This is for us. It’s part of what makes it so special, that it’s just ours. But we’re happy. Personally, I love a great love story”.
However, if royal-favourite Prince Harry does eventually pop the all-important question, Markle will be the first American to marry into the royal family since Wallis Simpson wed King Edwards VIII forcing him to abdicate from his throne. It may seem that this is why the two have been so tentative about their relationship and are avoiding marriage questions all together.
Although according to US Weekly, the Queen has given her tick of approval. Markle has been given exclusive access to Buckingham Palace. A privilege most unheard of unless you are a member of the royal family. The Queen was reported to be delighted to see her grandson Harry in a loving relationship.
“We’re in love. I’m sure there will be a time when we will have to come forward and present ourselves and have stories to tell…” says Markle. We think this is a sure hint to a possible engagement and thoroughly excited about the prospect!
