One red rose, one sealed letter, one breathtaking lake. And, of course, one very large reason to say yes.
Brazilian singer Luísa Sonza is engaged to Portuguese physician Luís Ribeirinho, who proposed on the rocky shores of Lake Eibsee in Germany, with the dramatic Zugspitze mountains towering in the background. The couple shared the moment through a series of dreamy photographs, capturing the proposal, their celebration, and Sonza’s striking new engagement ring: a substantial square-cut diamond on a sleek, minimalist band.

For a couple who have kept their relationship relatively private since getting together in late 2023, the engagement reveal was worth the wait. If this is how they announce a proposal, we are already very curious about what comes next.
There is something particularly effective about a proposal that lets the location do some of the talking.

Lake Eibsee is known for its clear turquoise water and its breathtaking position at the foot of the Bavarian Alps, making it the kind of place where even an ordinary holiday photo looks suspiciously like a luxury campaign. For Sonza and Ribeirinho, however, it became the setting for something far more personal.

The proposal itself appears intentionally intimate rather than overly produced. Ribeirinho got down on one knee on the rocky lakeshore as Sonza held a bouquet of red roses, while the couple was surrounded by the enormous mountain landscape. There was no elaborate floral installation competing with the scenery, no crowd of guests and no obvious spectacle. Just the two of them, the lake and a very important question.
That simplicity is precisely what makes the photographs work.
Of course, the ring had its own moment.

From the engagement photographs, Sonza’s ring appears to feature a substantial square-cut diamond, possibly a radiant or princess-style cut, set prominently on a delicate white metal band. The design has a clean, classic quality, allowing the centre stone to take over without unnecessary embellishment.
And take over it does.
The diamond looks impressively large in the close-up shots, particularly when Sonza extends her hand towards the camera against the soft-focus mountain and lake backdrop. Its geometric shape gives the ring a contemporary feel, while the relatively minimal setting keeps it from becoming overly ornate.
One detail that makes the photographs especially striking is the contrast between the ring and Sonza’s hand tattoos. The polished diamond, delicate manicure and red inked illustrations create a look that feels distinctly hers. It is bridal, but not in a generic way.

The proposal also came with two particularly romantic props: a single red rose and a sealed envelope.
In one of the photographs, an envelope bearing the name “Amorinho” rests on the rocks alongside the rose, closed with a deep red wax seal. The detail suggests that Ribeirinho had prepared something more personal to accompany the proposal, whether a love letter, a written message or a private note intended only for Sonza.
It is the kind of gesture that photographs beautifully without feeling like it exists solely for Instagram.
The red rose also appears throughout the proposal images, bringing a burst of colour to the otherwise muted alpine landscape.
Sonza and Ribeirinho have reportedly been together since late 2023, although the couple has largely kept their relationship away from the public spotlight. Sonza made the romance public in 2024, but their engagement announcement offered followers one of their most intimate glimpses into their relationship so far.
Ribeirinho, who is from Porto, is a physician currently completing his final year of plastic surgery residency in Germany. He shared the happy news on social media as well, keeping his announcement refreshingly simple: “She said yes.”
Meanwhile, congratulations quickly poured in for the singer, with several public figures joining fans in celebrating the couple’s news.
For Sonza, this engagement also marks a new chapter following her previous marriage to Brazilian comedian and creator Whindersson Nunes. The former couple married in 2018 in a destination wedding at São Miguel dos Milagres in Alagoas before separating in 2020.
This time around, however, Sonza’s love story has arrived at a mountain lake in Germany, with a proposal that feels markedly quieter, more private and wonderfully cinematic.
