If you’ve ever wondered what a truly amicable split looks like, look no further than Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin (and maybe also Demi Moore and Bruce Willis).
With Chris Martin turning 41 over the weekend, Gwyneth took to Instagram to wish her ex-husband and father of her two children a happy birthday, using a rather odd description for her former lover.
“Happy birthday my brother. Thank you for giving me these two. ”

That’s right – the GOOP founder just called her ex-husband her brother and we are very confused.
Though we weren’t alone in thinking the choice of caption sounded a bit incestuous, with some followers also pointing out the weirdness.
“Ok!!! There are many other ways to call your ex, bother. That s just weird and kind of gross. Ok, we get it you have a wonderful relationship and all, that is fantastic, but call him your brother that is really creepy. Sorry!!,” said user auris0877.
“Why….? Why would you call him your brother??? Weird … considering he’s your ex and father to your two children,” said user vbaker_85.
Others were more understanding, seeing the post as an example of a truly mature relationship between exes.
“Love your family and all you’ve done to get rid of divorce taboos,” said user abitlovely.
Gwyneth and Chris married in 2004 and have two children – daughter Apple, 13, and son Moses, 11 – before calling it quits and officially divorcing in July 2016. Gwyneth has since announced her engagement to Glee producer, Brad Falchuk.
This isn’t the first time that Gwyneth has referred to Chris as her brother; appearing on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert in January and saying of Chris, “He’s really like my brother. We’re very familial. It’s nice. It’s great.”
Well, we guess it’s better than a bitter divorce!
