After eight years of marriage, one of Hollywood’s most adorable couples is splitting up. Chris Pratt and Anna Faris made the joint announcement on the Guardian’s of the Galaxy’s Facebook page yesterday, admitting they had “tried hard for a long time.”
“Anna and I are sad to announce we are legally separating. We tried hard for a long time, and we’re really disappointed. Our son has two parents who love him very much and for his sake we want to keep this situation as private as possible moving forward. We still have love for each other, will always cherish our time together and continue to have the deepest respect for one another,” says the announcement, signed “Chris Pratt and Anna Faris.”
A week before the split, Faris released a podcast on her channel (Anna Faris is Unqualified) candidly discussing the ‘loneliness’ she feels in keeping up a ‘public character’.
“I play a character on Mom (TV series), I play a character in movies, but I also play a public character. There’s definitely a loneliness and, like, an internal element to being a performer. I feel like I have to laugh …” she said.
Musician Josh Ostrander, who guest starred during the segment, told Faris her admission ‘’broke his heart’’.
“I play a public character. I laugh loud sometimes – maybe too loud but it is a public character sometimes. Like, if I have a red-carpet thing or whatever, which I’m never comfortable, but I’m always like, ‘I’m fine!’ And it never feels like me.”
Pratt, 40, and Faris, 40, met in 2007 on the set of movie Take Me Home Tonight before announcing their engagement a year later. The pair married in Bali in July 2009 and have one child, Jack, born in 2012.
Rumours of Pratt cheating emerged in 2015, with Faris labelling the persistent tabloid speculation ‘stinging’. In a December 2016 podcast episode, Faris addressed the gossip that her husband was having an affair with Passengers co-star Jennifer Lawrence, labelling the accusations hurtful and the cause of her insecurity.
“I didn’t want to think of myself as somebody who could be bothered by tabloid sh*t,” Faris told guest Ilsa Fischer. “I take pride in how great my relationship is with Chris, but having said that, of course, in this crazy world where he’s off doing movies and I’m in L.A. raising our child, of course I’m going to feel vulnerable, like any normal human would.”
But don’t resort to the foetal position and hysterical sobbing just yet, because there are plenty of celebrities couples who are still going strong!
