There are beach proposals, and then there are beach proposals. Alessandra Ambrosio and Buck Palmer have apparently chosen the latter, complete with a heart traced into the sand, a tropical backdrop and an engagement ring that deserves its own close-up.
The Brazilian supermodel, 45, announced her engagement to Australian jewelry designer Buck Palmer on August 11, revealing that he actually proposed four months earlier during a romantic getaway in Indonesia. The couple had kept the moment between themselves before finally sharing the photographs with the world.
And judging from the photos, they had a pretty good reason to keep it private for a while. The proposal looks straight out of a fashion editorial, but there is something surprisingly personal about it too. Palmer got down on one knee inside a heart drawn in the sand, while the couple later ran into the ocean, embraced and celebrated their engagement against the island's spectacular scenery.
Ambrosio captioned the announcement with a sentiment that made the whole thing even sweeter: “I’d choose you in this life and every.”

The proposal took place in April at Nihi Sumba Island, a luxury resort destination in Indonesia that has become part of the couple's travel story. Rather than a grand public spectacle, Palmer opted for something intimate, romantic and very much in keeping with their shared love of travel.

In the photos, the couple are surrounded by ocean, sand and tropical scenery, with a large heart traced into the beach marking the spot where Palmer proposed. Aerial photographs give the whole scene a cinematic quality, while other images capture the newly engaged couple laughing, embracing and running through the water.
Ambrosio later revealed that the proposal had happened four months before their public announcement, explaining that they had been keeping the moment close to their hearts before deciding it was time to share it.

Naturally, the engagement announcement came with a very important accessory.
Ambrosio's ring features a substantial cushion or rectangular-cut diamond set on a gold band. Jewelry expert Nilesh Rakholia estimated the stone at approximately four to six carats, with its value potentially ranging from $2.8 million to $5.1 million if it is a high-quality natural diamond. Those figures are estimates rather than a confirmed valuation, but there is no denying that the ring makes an entrance.
Ambrosio offered a closer look at the ring in a series of beachside images, including one in which Palmer holds her hand toward the camera so the diamond catches the light. Another photograph shows the model relaxing beside her fiancé in matching white robes, casually displaying the ring while looking very much like someone who has just entered her future-bride era.
The choice of a cushion-shaped diamond is particularly interesting because the cut manages to feel glamorous without looking overly traditional. Paired with the warm tone of the gold band, it has the kind of presence that does not need a complicated setting to make an impression.
And considering Palmer is a jewelry designer himself, the ring feels especially fitting. His profession clearly gives him an intimate understanding of proportion, craftsmanship and, presumably, exactly how to make a piece of jewelry that his future wife will want to stare at for the next several decades.

If there is one thing this engagement has made abundantly clear, it is that the classic beach proposal is not going anywhere.
There is no elaborate ballroom, no dramatic orchestra and no need for hundreds of guests. Just two people, an extraordinary setting and a ring that catches the sunlight particularly well.

For brides-to-be, there is also plenty to take from Ambrosio's engagement without attempting to recreate it down to the last grain of sand. The heart-in-the-sand moment is romantic because it feels personal, while the ring works because its silhouette is elegant enough to remain timeless.
The real takeaway is not that every proposal needs to happen on a tropical island. It is that the best engagement details tend to be the ones that actually reflect the couple.
And if your version happens to involve a beach, a very large diamond and a sunset, well, we certainly won't complain.

Ambrosio and Palmer have not shared wedding plans yet, which means we are officially left to wonder what happens when a supermodel, a jewelry designer and this particular level of beachside romance eventually make it down the aisle.
Considering the proposal alone came with a destination setting, a custom-looking ring moment and enough visual material for an entire bridal mood board, we have a feeling the wedding will be one to watch.
Until then, we will be keeping an eye on that left hand.
