Terminally ill author writes dating profile for husband

Dying author Amy Krouse Rosenthal writes a devastatingly sad tribute in the form of a dating profile for husband.

While the idea of writing a dating profile may be a common occurrence, writing one for your husband whilst you’re terminally ill with ovarian cancer is definitely not so.

“I have never been on Tinder, Bumble or eHarmony, but I’m going to create a general profile for Jason right here, based on my experience of coexisting in the same house with him for, like, 9,490 days. First, the basics: He is 5-foot-10,160 pounds, with salt-and-pepper hair and hazel eyes” writes the American author in her piece entitled You May Want to Marry My Husband. Her piece was featured in the modern love section of the New York Times and has resonated with many dealing with love and grief.

“I have been married to the most extraordinary man for 26 years. I was planning on at least another 26 together” she writes. However, their big plans took a complete 360 after her diagnosis.

“Want to hear a sick joke?” she asks, as she recounts her trip to the hospital in September 2015 when she discovered that the unusual pain she was feeling was not “no biggie appendicitis” but rather ovarian cancer.

Rosenthal’s piece introduces us to her husband “He is an easy man to fall in love with. I did it in one day” and details how they met, as well as admitting she wanted to marry him after their first date.

“If you’re looking for a dreamy, let’s-go-for-it travel companion, Jason is your man”, she writes and further describes his artistic talents, his quirky sense of humour and his great fashion sense.

The concept that one’s spouse can move on after their partner’s death is hard to bear. However, Rosenthal has provided a light-humoured take on the concept, writing a perfectly detailed post on her husband and father of their three children, hoping that he might find new love after her death.

“I am wrapping this up on Valentine’s Day, and the most genuine, non-vase-oriented gift I can hope for is that the right person reads this, finds Jason, and another love story begins”.

Do read her piece You may want to marry my Husband  (we recommend a box of tissues within arms reach).
