Another year gone by, another year filled with break ups that sometimes hit us harder than our own.
While 2017 was filled with plenty of great moments, we also saw the demise of celebrity pairings that we were (mostly) rooting for. And although the lives of the rich and famous are presented to us through a glossy screen and even glossier filters, we still feel a pang of heartbreak when we see them go through heartbreak. As it turns out, they’re just like us – except they have the world watching them and also millions of dollars.
So take a walk through heartbreak with us. We promise it’s the last you’ll see for this year.
The two crooners hooked up not long after The Weeknd and Bella Hadid called it quits towards the end of 2016. After ten months together, Selena and Abel (his real name) broke up, citing conflicting schedules. It’s also interesting that it occurred around the same time that Selena was getting friendly with ex/possible soulmate Justin Bieber and now the two have been spotted getting close at hockey games and church masses.
We’re secretly hoping this means Bella and The Weeknd may rekindle something.

Working together on mother! brought Jennifer and Darren together last September, despite their 22-year age difference. It seemed as though they were another couple proving that age is just a number, although they kept their relationship as private as possible, until their split just before Thanksgiving.

Our hearts broke a little when we heard that Fergie and Josh were ending their marriage after 8 years together. Following the announcement, they released a joint statement saying, “we are and will always be united in our support of each other and our family,” and settling on joint custody of their-year-old son, Axl.

The Modern Family star and the Shadowhunters actor broke up after first getting together in 2015. The two kept the split amicable; a welcome relief after her previous relationship with actor Matt Prokop, who she has a restraining order against after he attacked her. Sarah is now in a relationship with former The Bachelorette star, Wells Adams.

After a tumultuous relationship together, filled with enough break ups and reconciliations to fuel seasons worth of KUWTK, Kylie and Tyga finally called it quits (for real this time). Kylie Jenner has since gotten with Travis Scott and has been fueling pregnancy rumours for the last few months, leaving Kardashian/Jenner fans on the edge of their seats.

Janet and Qatari businessman Wissam married in 2012 and enjoyed five years together before finally splitting this April, just three months after the birth of their son Eissa in January. As Wissam is worth an estimated $1 billion, Janet is expected to receive as much as $200 million in their divorce. The most we’ve gotten is ragged old jumpers, so good on her.

After two years together, Scarlett and French art show curator Romain filed for divorce, with Romain’s lawyers reportedly saying that he was blindsided by the divorce and “tired” of being in Scarlett’s shadow. Following their divorce, Scarlett has been open about enjoying her independence and requested primary physical custody of Rose Dorothy, their 2-year-old daughter.

This one almost tipped us over the edge. After 18 years together, Ben and Christine announced that they would be separating, stating to USA Today “with tremendous love and respect for each other, and the 18 years we spent together as a couple, we have made the decision to separate. Our priority will continue to be raising our children as devoted parents and the closest of friends. We kindly ask that the media respect our privacy at this time.”

And finally – this one officially broke us. Anna and Chris were the epitome of #relationshipgoals, so once news let out that they were splitting, fans didn’t know what to do with themselves. Chris filed for divorce from Anna at the start of December, ruining our Christmas wishes of a reconciliation, but the two are still friendly, sharing joint custody of their 5-year-old son, Jack.
