In heart-warming, tear-jerking news, a 5-year-old Connecticut girl born with a heart condition has been granted her wish – a mock bridal shoot with her best friend before her open-heart surgery.
Sophia Chiappalone was born with the right side of her heart missing and has underdone countless surgeries since birth.
Her mother, Kristy, describes her as a “walking miracle. There is no life expectancy at this time because there’s no reason for her to be alive.”
Before undergoing her third open-heart surgery at Boston Children’s Medical Center, Sophia only wanted one thing. To marry her best friend from pre-school, Hunter.

“That’s all she wanted in the world, was to marry the love of her life,” Kristy told NBC Connecticut
Of course, once Hunter’s mother Tracy heard of the wish, she and Kristy got to work immediately.
“I contacted my best friend who’s a photographer about maybe doing a mock bridal shoot and she was game,” said Tracy.
With a dress donated by Bliss Bridal and a photoshoot by Marisa from Sassy Mouth Photography, Sophia got her wish. Frolicking around in the autumn leaves, Hunter and Sophia both couldn’t keep the smiles off their faces.
“Marisa captured the innocent adoration these two kids have for each other on the perfect day with the right light,” Tracy wrote in a Facebook post. “Sophia may have half a heart, but she overflows the hearts of those around her with joy.”
While Sophia’s innocent wish was granted, her mother Kristy hopes it may spell wedding bells when she’s much older.
“I hope that Sophia is going to live a long life and marry Hunter when she’s 25,” Kristy said. “But my hope for the future is that Sophia stays happy and healthy as long as her body can handle.”
