Everybody’s favourite Royal, Prince Harry, is officially off the market; announcing this morning that he and actress Meghan Markle are engaged.

As more details of how the engagement came about are revealed, it seems like the perfect modern day fairytale. It also echoes another Hollywood-meets-Royalty story, following in the steps of Hollywood siren Grace Kelly and her marriage to the Prince of Monaco.

But how exactly did the third-in-line for the British throne meet the Canadian-based actress, best known for her role in Suits?

How They Met

Harry and Meghan were first introduced to each other in London through a mutual friend. According to U.K. royal expert Katie Nicholl, the Prince had had a crush on Meghan for two years before they had even met.

As she explained to People, “[A friend] told me she’d been on a night out with Prince Harry. He was single at the time, so she said, ‘Harry, who’s your ideal girl?’ And he said ‘Meghan Markle from Suits.’”

However, as Harry and Meghan made their engagement announcement, Harry confirmed that he had never watched an episode of Suits.

“I’d never watched Suits, I’d never heard of Meghan before. And I was beautifully surprised when I walked into that room and saw her and there she was sitting there. I was like, ‘Okay, well I’m going to have to really up my game here. And sit down and make sure I’ve got a good chat.’”

Since the announcement of their engagement, Harry and Meghan have given interviews discussing their imminent wedding and how they met. The two were introduced by a mutual friend and had back-to-back dates in July before Harry whisked her off to Botswana.

“I think about three, maybe four weeks later that I managed to persuade her to come and join me in Botswana. And we – we camped out with each other under the stars, we spent – she came and joined me for five days out there, which was absolutely fantastic,” Harry told People.
