Last weekend, 21-year old German army wife, Naomi Jael Covert was a guest at a close friend’s Wedding when her baby son, TJ became hungry.
Naomi’s instinct was, obviously, to feed him.
So, with the help of some other guests, she loosened the top of her dress and began breast-feeding the 10-month old, while the party continued on around her.
One of her friends took a snap of Naomi feeding the bub at the Wedding and Naomi shared the picture on Instagram later in the evening, not thinking too much into it. (The image was caption “When you are at a wedding, wear fancy dresses and high heels. and your baby gets hungry, well… You give no shits and feed the kid *EDIT: whoever gets mad about this I also fed my son at the church ceremonie IN the church. Here in Germany people don’t get mad about it. It is NORMAL . Nothing rude or bad about it. This is why I have breasts! Cause God gave me boobs for feeding my babies.”)
Naomi woke the next morning to harsh criticism, as well as many comments supporting and applauding her.
Some of the negative commentators told her to “hide under a rock”,“throw a blanket on,” or “pump and bring a bottle”; while some of the positive comments included, “It’s so unfortunate that I feel like I have to hide feeding my baby. I live in NY and know that people would either give me dirty or inappropriate looks. You’d figure NY would be liberal enough. I wish I just had the balls like you do to just say ‘f— them all.’ I even cover up in my own house if we have company over. I guess I stand up in my own little way. I breast feed her in the middle of restaurants and birthday parties just covered up. Would be so much easier to not feel like we have to. I’m seriously so impressed, proud and jealous of you lol. You’re help paving the way by posting this. Great work. Everyone with negative comments should be ashamed of themselves.”
Naomi told Buzzfeed, “It’s just normal – you have conversations with people while feeding the child. It is nothing sexual. It’s just another person eating.”
The Bride and Groom were behind her decision to feed the baby 100%.
Naomi finished by saying, “I wanted to show that it’s literally no big deal to breastfeed, no matter the circumstances.”
