The 2012 Miss Universe has won the new title of ‘Mrs. McCaffrey’, and the ceremony was truly out of this universe (pun intended).
Olivia Culpo and Christian McCaffrey formalized their love story in Culpo’s home state of Rhode Island at the stunning Watch Hill Chapel on June 29. A-list guests surrounded the event and witnessed their vows, but, as Cher would say: “can we get a little commotion for the dress?”
Behind The Dress Design
Documented by Vogue, the model reveals her thought process from the initial vision to the creation of her custom-made Dolce & Gabbana gown. The starting point for developing the luxurious pieces? Something that “felt as serious as that commitment [of marriage]” Culpo told Vogue.
The ceremony dress was a long-sleeve crepe ball gown with a crew neck, a voluminous skirt, and a button-lined back, flawlessly brought to life by the Dolce & Gabbana atelier. Olivia’s main request was for the dress to feel effortless, avoiding any overtly sexy elements that could overpower her presence.
“I didn’t want it to exude sex in any way, shape, or form,” Olivia told Vogue, “I wanted it to feel effortless and as if it’s complimenting me, not overpowering me. There’s so much beauty and simplicity.”
The authentic and unexpected design led to controversy on social media.
But the beautiful bride (the one responsible for deciding what she wears, people!) explained that her inspiration stemmed from thoughts of her husband and when he finds her most beautiful: in timeless, covered, and elegant designs.

The classy piece and the ethereal church setting, just like the couple, seemed perfectly matched for each other. The Wedding day was followed by the reception and the after-party dresses. The former being more reserved, while the latter exuded “modern” and “bold” all in one.
The former Miss Universe and the NFL star savoured every moment leading up to their special day. Culpo shared photos of the couple celebrating their new married life, starting with their flight to Rhode Island, where they were greeted by an extraordinary “Mr. and Mrs.” sign outside their private plane.
