There's a moment in every real wedding feature where you stop scrolling. For Elle and Chris, it's the church doors flying open, rice raining down like confetti, Elle's bouquet thrown skyward mid-laugh, Chris beside her grinning like it's the best day of his life. Because it is.

But behind that one electric shot is a full day built on something more considered: a couple who wanted their Greek Orthodox heritage front and centre, styled with the kind of restraint that makes a wedding feel expensive without trying too hard.
Elle and Chris's love story is rooted in shared Greek heritage, family, and a mutual love of celebrating life loudly and often. It's a connection Ashley describes as effortless and playful, and one she says translated into every frame of the day. This wasn't a couple performing romance for the camera. It was a couple who'd built a life together, finally making it official in front of everyone who mattered.
Their brief was simple, but not easy to pull off: honour the Greek Orthodox traditions in full, the chanting, the ritual, the crowning ceremony, while making the rest of the day feel undeniably modern. Timeless elegance, Melbourne cool. Nothing overdone.
The ceremony took place at St John the Forerunner and Baptist Greek Orthodox Church on Lygon Street, grounding the day in something deeply emotional before the celebration even began. From there, the couple moved to Zinc Melbourne at Federation Square for a reception Ashley calls "cosmopolitan" in the best sense: sleek, elevated, unmistakably city.
But it's the in-between moments, the portrait session, where this feature earns its editorial credentials. Ashley used Melbourne itself as a backdrop, treating the city less like a location and more like a co-star:

Ashley made a deliberate choice to shoot much of the portrait work in black and white, a decision that, on a couple this photogenic, could have gone either way. It didn't. Elle's Kyha gown, all structure and sculptural fabric, was practically built for monochrome. Stripping the colour back forced the focus onto what Ashley says mattered most: the connection, the light, the feeling.
Then, at the exact right moment, she let the colour back in. The church exit: rice, bouquet, unfiltered joy, was never going to work in black and white. Some moments need saturation.
We asked Ashley what separates a beautiful wedding gallery from one that actually stops people mid-scroll. Her answer wasn't about posing, lighting, or even the dress.
"Trust the quiet moments. The images that stop people mid-scroll are never the posed ones, they're the in-between seconds, the glance, the exhale, the hand squeeze before you walk down the aisle."
Her second piece of advice is one every couple planning a city wedding should hear: don't underestimate your own backdrop. Melbourne, in her hands, became a character in the story, but the same logic applies wherever you're standing. Lean into the locations that mean something. Wear something you feel extraordinary in.
