Inside Cathy & Christian’s Destination Wedding: A New York Love Story Turned Los Cabos Into a Movie Set

Inside Cathy & Christian’s Destination Wedding: A New York Love Story Turned Los Cabos Into a Movie Set

Some love stories don’t begin with a grand plan or a perfectly timed moment, they begin in passing, in places that feel almost too ordinary to matter. For Cathy and Christian, it was the L train in New York. One of those fleeting encounters that could have easily been forgotten, but instead became the start of something that felt unexpectedly right.

A Love Story That Started in the Most New York Way Possible

From the beginning, there was an ease between them: shared humour, a natural rhythm, and the kind of connection that doesn’t need to be over-explained. Over time, that ease turned into a life they built together, one that felt less like a coincidence and more like something that was always meant to happen.

Not Just a Wedding, But a World of Their Own

When it came to their Destination wedding, it was never going to be about tradition for the sake of it. They kept returning to the same idea: they didn’t just want to host a wedding, they wanted to create an experience. Something immersive, something that felt like stepping into their world rather than observing it from the outside.

Set against the understated beauty of Acre Resort in Los Cabos, their celebration became a reflection of exactly that. Drawing inspiration from film and storytelling, every detail was designed to feel intentional and transportive, yet never overworked. There was a quiet confidence in the way it all came together, allowing the natural setting of Cabo to do what it does best, frame the moment without overwhelming it.

The Details That Told Their Story

What made the day truly memorable, however, wasn’t just the concept but the way their story was woven into it. The most striking detail, a subway installation, was not simply a design choice, but a nod to where it all began. It felt personal, almost nostalgic, like bringing a piece of New York into the middle of Mexico.

Christian took this sense of storytelling even further by designing all of the stationery himself, from custom movie posters to escort cards that reflected each guest’s favourite film. It was playful, thoughtful, and deeply considered in a way that made every guest feel part of something specific, not generic.

Fashion, Keepsakes, and Meaningful Choices

For Cathy, the meaning was just as present in the details she carried with her.

Instead of a traditional bouquet, she chose a ceramic flower, something lasting, something she could keep long after the day had passed. Her dress felt equally intentional: modern, slightly unexpected, and perfectly aligned with the overall mood of the celebration. Nothing felt like it was done because it had to be.

Every choice felt like it had a reason, which is perhaps what made the wedding feel so beautifully cohesive.

A Destination Wedding That Continued the Story

There was also something uniquely layered about the celebration itself. Cathy and Christian had already married in a small, intimate theatre ceremony in New York with just ten people. This weekend in Cabo wasn’t about repeating that moment, but expanding it, giving it space to be expressed more fully, more openly, and with the people who mattered most. It felt less like a single event and more like a continuation of something that had already begun.

What Other Brides Can Take From It

Looking back, their advice to other couples feels almost disarmingly simple: you don’t have to follow any rules. The most meaningful parts of their wedding were the ones that felt the most like them, even when they didn’t quite fit into what a wedding is “supposed” to look like.

What mattered wasn’t doing everything, but doing the right things with intention. Because in the end, people don’t remember every detail, they remember how they felt being there.
