BEHIND THE SCENES: LET THEM EAT CAKE

Every season, Wedded Wonderland creates its own photoshoot, setting the trends for fashion, styling and theming for the coming months.

Our winter editorial shoot was titled Let Them Eat Cake and was held at Dockside Group’s Italian Village, overlooking Sydney Harbour. Photographer by celebrity stylist and photographer, Fernando Barraza, it was a combination of classic European luxury with elements of the exotic and a sprinkle of the bizarre.

The grand wooden doors, brown-hued bricks and sandstone walls were styled with rustic barrows, traditional Italian family portraits and antique mirrors.

This was truly a fashion affair with each gown a combination of fierce confidence with regal refinement. The final frame of the day was jaw-dropping with lavish crowns, blood-red lace, opulent jewels and a gold-embroidered veil.

With the support of the industry’s most respected suppliers, we managed to shoot a total of 22 styled looks throughout the 11-hour day.

We opted for two models, Michelle and Elina from Viviens, each with their own distinct look. Michelle’s sharp jaw and killer cheekbones were powerful, while Elina’s piercing blue eyes and unique Aboriginal/Italian heritage, gave her a childlike innocence. Makeup artist, Melissa Sassine played on the model’s best features, giving Michelle a smoky eye and Elina a bold burgundy lip. Hair was styled by Natalie Anne and each girl received a number of looks throughout the day, each designed to suit their hairpieces and gowns.

John Alten used his eye for detail to style each frame with striking blooms and boxes of fresh, in-season apples, berries, pears and grapes from Sydney Markets. Serving as the inspiration for the shoot, Sweet Bloom Cakes created decadent tiered cakes, cupcakes and macarons decorated with gold flakes and flowers.
