In the picturesque setting of Stones of the Yarra Valley, Nonny and Mark, high school acquaintances turned life partners, celebrated their love in a European inspired wedding that encapsulated classic elegance with a modern twist. Their journey, spanning over 14 years from Western Australia to the charming vineyards of Victoria, is a testament to enduring love and a shared vision for the future.

How They Met
Nonny and Mark attended the same high school in Western Australia, but didn’t speak much to each other at school. Mark was two years older and Nonny was a little shy. It wasn’t until Mark’s graduation that their story took a romantic turn, much to the surprise of their friends who were astounded to learn they had become a couple. They have been together through the many seasons of life and 14 years later they are still each other’s favorite.
The Wedding Planning
Two years separated the engagement from their wedding day, and planning commenced just a week after the proposal (yes, she was that bride!). This extended timeline proved to be a strategic advantage. Initial efforts were focused on securing the major elements, gradually moving towards the intricacies as time progressed. Remarkably, the process remained largely under control. However, the month leading up to the wedding revealed the true intensity of the planning process. Amidst a whirlwind of work commitments, final dress fittings, and vendor meetings, the myriad of details requiring attention became evident. Their organizational skills played a crucial role in mitigating the chaos.
The Venue
Nonny and Mark’s search for the perfect wedding venue led them to the enchanting Stones of the Yarra Valley. The couple only saw one wedding venue before seeing Stones but as soon as they drove onto the property, they knew this would be where they tie the knot. With its European charm and serene landscapes, the venue offered a sense of an exotic destination while remaining close to home in Victoria. The couple, along with 95 guests, many of whom journeyed from Western Australia, were captivated by the venue’s beauty, which mirrored their dream of a wedding that was both familiar and extraordinary.
Following The European Inspired Wedding Style
With the help of Laura from Weddings Of Desire, Nonny and Mark’s vision of a classic white wedding with a romantic, timeless essence was brought to life. The chapel’s floral and greenery setup left guests breathless.
The Gowns
Nonny’s bridal aesthetic was beautifully realized by Kyha Studios, who designed both her ceremony and reception dresses. The process began with Nonny meeting with Kyha and trying on a selection of different gowns to see what silhouette and materials she was leaning towards. Nonny had the option to go down the custom design route but fell completely in love with the BISSET gown. Kyha suggested making a customized BISSET by adding more volume to the skirt and a longer train for extra drama. The BISSET gown was crafted in taffeta, lending a contemporary edge to its classic silhouette.
Nonny’s choice for the reception, the Salacea gown, combined elegance with comfort, allowing her to dance freely throughout the night. Kyha added a split and removed sleeves and just like that her perfect second dress was created.
For her veil, Nonny decided on a cathedral length with custom embroidery. It was special because the embroidery read ‘Worth the Wait’ in her grandmother’s handwriting, who was so proud to see this detail as she walked down the aisle.
The Couples’ Favorite Elements
The floral and greenery setup in the chapel was a breathtaking highlight, exceeding all expectations and captivating every guest. The wedding was marked by an attention to smaller, yet deeply meaningful details. For instance, the groom’s shirt cuff was subtly embroidered with “I do,” while the bride’s veil carried a special touch with “Worth The Wait” embroidered in her grandmother’s handwriting. The wedding brimmed with cherished elements, like the enchanting music of the singer and piano player during the ceremony. The bride also added a personal ode to the groom’s late mother, Atetha Naitanui, by wearing A & N initial studs in her second ear piercing, showcasing a deep connection to family and heritage.
Advice to Future Brides
Nonny’s advice to future brides is born from her own experience – a well-prepared plan leading to a relaxed approach during the final month. Despite the inevitable chaos leading up to the wedding, her organization and focus on the big picture ensured a smooth transition to their special day.
The Honeymoon
The couple, with their wedding being in December, faced a dilemma: whether to embark on a honeymoon during the Christmas and New Year period. Opting to relieve themselves of the pressure, they chose to postpone their honeymoon to 2024, with Egypt at the top of their list!
