How They Met
The two were introduced by mutual friends and it only took the first date to know that there was a special connection. The COVID lockdown saw them separated for three long months early in their relationship. This period, challenging yet character-building, laid the foundation for a bond strong enough to weather any storm.
Fast forward to a surprise proposal at home, George down on one knee, a moment intimate and pure, sealing their journey to a forever together.
Planning A Destination Wedding
They embarked on planning a destination wedding thousands of miles from home by entrusting their vision to a local wedding planner. They dedicated seven months to hard work and ensuring every detail was perfect. Embracing the challenge, their team of local vendors transformed challenges into triumphs, ensuring a seamless celebration against all odds.
The Wedding Inspiration
The couple’s inspiration drew from the ethereal beauty of the Aegean coastline. They envisioned a theme that married the simplicity of blue and white with touches of gold, under a celestial dome of stars. This dream was brought to life with a custom wedding logo, intertwining their initials (“E&G”) with olive branches and the iconic spirals of Ancient Greek columns—a nod to their heritage and a symbol of their union.
Unique Touches
Elle’s ‘something blue’ was a heartfelt homage to the matriarchs in her life, a delicate embroidery of initials on her bouquet. And in a tender gesture of legacy, she adorned her grandmother’s watch, a borrowed treasure from her mother.
The Venue
While tradition was always going to be at the core of the wedding celebrations due to their Greek backgrounds, Greece holds a special place in Elle & George’s heart being a second home to the couple. Athens was also the couple’s first international holiday destination together. The decision to have it in Greece was also a sentimental one for George’s family, as it brought his family to Greece for the first time and was the reason George’s mum returned to her birth place and family village after 44 years.
The venue, Island Art and Taste, was an easy choice with its delicious food, spectacular views and what else could make it more perfect than a church overlooking the Aegean.
With 95 guests attending, from 8 countries mainly from Australia and South Africa, and some family members from Cyprus and Greece. The intimate affair brought together the couple’s most loved friends and family, creating an atmosphere that was one for the books and one that outlived the weather and went till sunrise!
A Homage to The Couples’ Greek Heritage
Elle and George’s Greek heritage was the heartbeat of their celebration. From a traditional Greek church ceremony to the euphoric beats of Greek music, every element was a homage to their roots. The night came alive with their entrance to a dance rendition of ‘Zorba the Greek’, setting the stage for an evening brimming with kefi—a Greek concept embodying joy, passion, and a zest for life.
The Couples’ Favorite Moments
For George, the defining moment unfolded at the altar. As the winds howled and the rain danced, he stood firm, realizing that with Elle by his side, and surrounded by love, any challenge in life was surmountable. The storm, in its own way, was a blessing of love and fortune.
For Elle, it was a moment of serene reflection amidst the jubilance, where she paused to absorb the overwhelming love and joy that radiated around them—a moment etched in their hearts, a reminder of love’s enduring power.
In the embrace of the Aegean’s charm, Elle and George’s wedding wasn’t just a celebration of their love; it was a testament to the enduring beauty of cultural roots, the strength of unity, and the magic of starting a life together under the watchful eyes of history’s greatest romantics.
