A Beautiful Traditional Nigerian Wedding

Christine and Arthur’s love story began… in a kitchen!

Christine (literally) discovered Arthur in the kitchen of her parents’ home, washing the dishes, on the day of her return from summer vacation. As it had turned out, Arthur had become good friends with Christine’s brother while she was gone, and was being a helpful guest by assisting with the cleaning. Christine and Arthur’s second encounter occurred at her parents’ 25th wedding anniversary, where the couple once again found themselves flirting in the kitchen of the reception hall, as they were both trying to bring out drinks. Finally, their third (kitchenly) encounter occurred following Arthur’s sleepover at Christine’s house, on the morning of Christine’s sister’s graduation. The morning of the event, Christine was making breakfast for everyone as Arthur chatted with her, consistently commending her on her hospitality. They spoke about their hopes and dreams, and discovered they had many things in common. They kept in contact, and the rest is history!

The most incredible aspect of Christine and Arthur’s wedding, is definitely the traditional Nigerian elements of both the ceremony and reception. While maintaining a timeless and classic theme, the couple also followed tradition by breaking African kola nuts, as Christine’s father is an ‘Igwe’: a highly respected traditional community King. The reception featured romantic tones of pink, gold and white, as well as amazing tree-like centrepieces. The colourful traditional gowns were certainly spectacular, as was Christine’s second gown of the night!

*Hint, hint* – It was GOLD!
