A Tuscan Inspired Wedding in Yarra Valley, Victoria

A simple message on social media sparked this romance and after going on their first-date (a Coogee to Bondi walk) Sarah and Kris fell in love and “Here we are…married with 2 kids in 5 years”! Mr and Mrss Smith gave us a glimpse into their Yarra Valley Wedding where they celebrated amongst their closest family, friends and two baby girls Mila and Frankie.

The Love Story

A modern love story that emerged on social media (yes sliding in the DM’s works)! Sarah and Kris were chatting online and had planned “to go for a quick walk before Kris had dinner plans that evening. We went from Coogee to Bondi in Sydney and then ended up having sushi for dinner despite our plans to make it a quick catch up we just really clicked”. These two practically fell in love after their first-walk and soon after planned a trip to Bali within their first few months of dating. After celebrating their 1 year anniversary they welcomed their first born daughter Mila into the world and after 3 months, Sarah fell pregnant again with second daughter Frankie (making them exactly 53 weeks apart). After having two beautiful baby girls, Kris knelt down on one knee at Frankie’s First birthday and completely surprised Sarah with a proposal. And here they are ….”Married with 2 kids in 5 years”!

The Venue

Kris and I always wanted to have a Tuscan vibe wedding in Italy together. With 3 young kids and family all over Aust and the UK the logistics of it all wasn’t so easy. When actually we stumbled across Stones of the Yarra Valley one night whilst searching for a venue online. The next day we took a trip to the Yarra valley with the babies for lunch and fell instantly in love with its Tuscan aesthetic and grounds. We booked our wedding date that day with 9 months to get planning.

How long did it take to design your dress and why was it perfect for you?

I started on my bespoke dress design in February this year with Kyha founder and creative director of Chosen by KYHA. I wanted to go for a classic yet sexy and modern gown and move into a party dress for after the ceremony. We started by souring the perfect lace and flower pattern for my white number and working on the fit of the romper. A couple of months out from the big day I decided to go all out with tule skirt and doubled the length to 4m long with a 5m train. I remember saying to Kyha let’s make it BIG, out the door. The tule had a wait high split at the front and when I walked you could see a pop of the lace underneath.

To make this even more special we made our daughters flower girl dresses with the same Lace fabric as my dress and the detailed buttons up the zip line on the back of the dress. I will always remember at our final fitting my eldest Mila said to me as she tried her dress on “mummy we have the same flowers”. My evening dress was something a little more fun with a hand beaded golden wave pattern all over. It sparkled under all of fairy lights at dinner.

What was the most unique element of your wedding?

We had a single long dinner table under a canopy of cascading lights. This created a romantic intimate experience as if we were dining under the stars. Our table was flowered with white roses and white linen and ivory candles with gold finishes to complete the romantic elegance.

If you could give one piece of advice to future couples, what would it be?

To be in the moment. As cliche as that sounds, on our wedding day we made a point of soaking up all the little moments together. Your day goes so fast, we made sure to pause with each other throughout the day to look around at all our friends and family who came together to celebrate us.
