The Only 5 Styling Tips You Need When Selecting Your Gown

Finding the perfect wedding dress is no easy feat, no matter how organized your Pinterest board is. There’s dress after dress and boutique after boutique to search through, and that’s not even mentioning those Brides who are having their dress custom made. Just imagine the anxiety!

But it’s not all panic and fear, because there are a few tips that’ll help you in your search for your dream wedding dress, and they’ll make the hunt just that little bit easier. We spoke to professional stylist Marc James for his go-to tips.

Bring out the pen and paper, because you’ve got some serious note-taking to do.

Try Them All

According to Marc, it’s important to try on as many different styles as possible, even if you have a particular idea in your head. The chances are, you’ll end up with a gown that you never would have expected.

Accessorise Accordingly

When picking a dress, be mindful that the style will determine the type of accessories you’ll choose. If the gown is full of detail, such as beaded patterns or lace designs, you’d want to go subtle with the jewels. However, if your heart is set on a plain dress, remember that you’ll be able to dress it up with some gorgeous accessories.

Own That Dress

It’s not about what you wear, but how you wear it. You can look a million dollars without spending a million. Just own that dress girl!

Think About Your Hair & Makeup

Hair and makeup are vital parts of making your whole look come together, so make sure that whatever you have in mind will compliment the dress you choose.

Work With Your Bridal Party

Wedding gowns are complemented by selecting bridesmaids dresses that also work together with the groomsmen’s suits. Picking a tone, colour, or pattern from your dress and showcasing it through the suits is one of the finer details that makes the wedding party flow together.

Have A Vision

Creating a vision for the wedding starts with the bridal party outfits. Brides need to think about the details from the very beginning. Bringing some colour into a wedding either starts from the bridesmaids dresses or the floral arrangements.

Get Your Photoshoot On

Have your bridal team take photos of you in every gown you love. When you head to your next appointment, you’ll have a quick catalog to compare to, which is always a bonus. Be sure to twirl, walk, get photos of the front and the back, and show off your best catwalk moves. You’ll likely try on so many dresses that some of the gowns can be easily forgotten.

Shop Early

Wedding gowns that are not off the rack can take anywhere from 4-10 months to be made, so it’s important to get cracking. If it is off the rack, then you need to factor in alterations as well. It’s never too early to start!
