Some love stories begin with a swipe. Kelsey and Ricky's began with a Cavador named Cody and a Border Collie named Tippa, and honestly, it's the better origin story.
It was a regular morning at Rose Bay's dog beach in Sydney when Kelsey's Border Collie, Tippa, crossed paths with Ricky's Cavador, Cody. What followed was the kind of instant connection that sounds like fiction: effortless, easy, like they'd already known each other for years.
"From the very beginning, everything just felt effortless," Kelsey recalls. "Like we had known each other for much longer than we had."
Less than eight weeks after meeting, they were boarding a flight to Bali together. Less than 18 months after that, Ricky got down on one knee, in Paris.
"He proposed in Paris, which felt like the perfect reflection of our journey: spontaneous, romantic, and full of adventure," says Kelsey.
Spoiler: the Paris chapter wasn't over yet. It would come back in the most beautiful way on their wedding day.

If you're expecting a stiff, traditional wedding with seating charts and rigid timelines, this is not that wedding. And that was entirely the point.
Kelsey and Ricky brought their vision to life at Cirq Bar & Lounge at Crown Sydney, a venue that perfectly matched their brief: elevated, atmospheric, and built for a night that doesn't end early. With the trusted hands of event planners BNT Management orchestrating every detail, the couple were free to simply enjoy the day they'd been dreaming of.
Kelsey and Ricky's vision was clear from the start: refined but fun, intentional yet effortless. They wanted a celebration that felt alive, the kind where guests aren't watching the clock, they're on the dance floor.
"We chose an open, free-flowing experience with no assigned seating and no strict timelines," Kelsey explains. "Guests could move, mingle, and enjoy a variety of food stations with different cuisines throughout the night."
The result? An atmosphere that buzzed from start to finish. A modern wedding that felt timeless without trying too hard. A party that happened to also be a wedding.

Here's where it gets truly special. As Kelsey walked down the aisle, the violinist began to play, the exact same song that had filled the air during her Paris proposal.
"It felt like everything had come full circle in the most beautiful, personal way," she says.
But the personal touches didn't stop there. Calla lilies styled throughout the space weren't chosen for their aesthetic alone, they were chosen in honour of Kelsey's late Bobba, Grandma Lily. Every stem carried her memory into the room.
Their ceremony singer was flown in all the way from Cape Town, a nod to their South African family and friends who mean so much to them. And instead of a traditional tiered wedding cake, the couple served a large tiramisu, their favourite dessert, and the same one they shared during their Paris proposal.
"It felt like such a personal and sentimental touch," Kelsey says. And she's right, it absolutely did.

Before the ceremony even began, there was a moment that Kelsey describes as one of the most powerful of the entire day.
During the Bedeken, a traditional Jewish pre-ceremony ritual where the groom veils the bride, Kelsey watched Ricky walk toward her alongside their groomsmen and both of their fathers.
"It was such a meaningful way to begin the ceremony," she reflects. "Watching him walk toward me with our fathers felt incredibly powerful and emotional."
It set the tone for everything that followed: deeply personal, rooted in love, and entirely their own.

Ask any couple what they remember most from their wedding day, and more often than not, it's not the grand gesture, it's a quiet moment of realisation.
For Kelsey and Ricky, it was a pause mid-reception, looking around the room at every person they love, all in one place, laughing and dancing.
"That sense of love and energy in the room is something we'll hold onto forever," Kelsey says. "It's such a rare and special feeling." And that, more than any perfectly styled detail, is what a wedding is really about.

If you're currently buried in spreadsheets, vendor emails, and the quiet panic of seating arrangements, Kelsey has something to say to you.
"Try not to get caught up in making everything perfect. Focus on what actually matters to you. The day goes by so quickly, so being present and enjoying it is the most important thing."
She also has this: "Don't be afraid to make decisions that reflect you as a couple, even if they're a little different. That's what makes it truly special."
Words worth writing on a sticky note and putting on your mirror right now.
