This Bride Made Her Own Wedding Cake

Sandro and Dušanka were celebrating their 4 year anniversary and the two stayed at their favourite hotel in the city sipping on champagne and eating chocolate dipped strawberries and that was the moment Sandro went down on one knee and popped the question!

The couple’s wedding was a celebration of their love, culture and traditions. The two share the same background and knew they both wanted to have a traditional Serbian Orthodox wedding and to stay true to their cultural roots. The couple decided to go for a simple, refined, elegant and easy going theme for their special day which totally reflected their personalities.

Dušanka’s choice of gown was a simple, straight, lace gown which had intricate olive leaf hand embroidered details and this was the main inspiration that Dušanka used for the elements of the wedding. The detailed embroidered olive leaves were incorporated throughout all the wedding stationery, the favours and the cake which was made by the bride herself.

Following true Serbian tradition, the groom’s party came to the bride’s house to ‘Buy The Bride’. Family members and friends came dressed up in colourful wigs, tragically over-lined red lips and costumes which totally left all guests in stitches!

Surpassing all the elaborate traditions and the extensive DIY elements to the couple’s wedding, one of the most unique details was Dušanka’s bridal hairstyle. “I wanted to wear my hair the same way both of my grandmothers wore it throughout most of their lives and Ellie Maree did an amazing job recreating the ‘milkmaid’ updo with a modern touch” explains Dušanka and her hairstyle landed on Elle Magazine as the cover image for an article on Sydney’s Best Wedding Hair Stylists.

The reception was lit up with the couple’s beaming family and close friends as everyone covered the dance floor and danced to traditional music all night long.

Congratulations to Dušanka and Sandro!
