Something Old, Something Borrowed, Something Sentimental

Grab your tissues Fairies, because this one’s a tear-jerker.

Bride-to-be, Emma Letts from Leicestershire, England, got engaged in 2016, and now just months away from her wedding day, she’s received the most beautiful surprise.

One month after announcing her engagement, Emma’s mother was diagnosed with terminal lung cancer. Knowing that her time on her earth would be shortened, she made a few preparations and sneakily bought her daughter’s bridal shoes for her, adding a personal touch, with the help of Emma’s fiancé, Richard.

Unfortunately, the mother passed away in 2017.

In preparation for her up-and-coming wedding in August, Emma received her bridal shoes. A blush pink colour, and carefully crafted to feature hand embroidery across the front, gold detailing leaves, pearls and crystals at the back of the heel, the shoes were gorgeous. But it was the message she found on the sole that really took her breath away.

Having gotten in contact with the owner of the shoe label, Emma’s mum had asked for the following to be engraved:

“Wanted you to have a gift from me on your wedding day. Your wedding shoes are my gift to you. Hope you have a magical day. Lots and lots of love and big hugs, MUM xxxx”

Sharing the sweet gift to Facebook, Emma described the moment she found the secret message, “I started to cry…I was just absolutely in bits. I couldn’t breathe, I couldn’t talk.”

The beautiful and bespoke gesture from Emma’s mum touched readers all around the world, inspiring people to reach out to her with messages of support. For Emma, it was comforting to know there were so many other people who understood what she was feeling, missing a special person on one of the most significant and important days of her life.

We know through this beautiful and well thought out gesture, Emma’s mother will be with her, every step on her wedding day.
