This glamorous, modern, cross-cultural retro inspired Melbourne Wedding is the definition of fun!
Both known for being social and throwing a great party Mary and Michael wanted their Wedding to be the best party they had ever thrown.
“I just wanted it to feel like a big fun party. It needed to be the best party we’d ever throw, as it was going to be the most expensive party we’d ever throw!” joked Mary, who also happens to be one of of very own Wedded team members!
Their journey as a couple began at a farewell party for a mutual friend, and eventuated with a sweet and personal proposal by Michael. “I started singing ‘You are my sunshine’ to him as a joke and he then proceeded to bring out a ring, get down on one knee and propose. There was nothing staged about the moment, he saw his in and he took it, it was incredibly sweet”.
The Wedding was full of these beautifully earnest and personal moments and touches – often with a lighthearted spin as Mary and Michael are known for being the jokers of their social groups.
Mary wore a deep v-necked gown by Bonita Couture, with possibly the most luscious embossed material we’ve ever seen a wedding dress made out of, coupled with subtle mid-century glam and retro references in her hair and make-up choices. To extend this modern glamour theme, Mary chose to dress her Maids in the Sienna dress by Pia Gladys Perey from White Runway which accentuated their curves in all the right ways.
“Michael and I didn’t want to have to adhere to any cliche weddings traditions that we didn’t ourselves love, or think people actually enjoyed. If it was going to be a part of our wedding, it had to feel like our spin of the tradition” Mary explained.
This was seen in many aspects of the wedding. Instead of having a standard wedding cake that people often do not eat or get excited about, they opted to have a cronut tower made by Rustica Sourdough.
“Rustica Sourdough makes the best cronuts in all of Melbourne – and probably Australia! Ha ha. I couldn’t have dreamt of a better way to excite our guests about dessert. Rustica really went over and beyond turning my dream into a reality by specially creating a giant cronut that would sit at the top of the tower, which we then cut with a sword! People LOVED it!”
Taking notes from the Bride’s Lebanese heritage and the Groom’s Australian heritage they created a few cross-cultural Wedding traditions.
“We took all the things I loved about Lebanese weddings – the church ceremony, the Lebanese drum entrance, cutting our cake with a sword and combined it with what Gill loved about Australian weddings – a good choice of craft beer, dancing tunes and a personalised set-up”.
Mary and Michael’s most unique moment however, was when they ditched the traditional Wedding first dance and instead created a mash-up of famous film dances as they thought this would be more entertaining to watch.
“We started with the famous Uma Thurman and John Travolta Pulp Fiction dance, then went into Dirty Dancing. We also choose to psych people out by not doing the big lift, but rather teased people by doing the run up and stopping haha. Then going into our last song – Hand Jive from Grease where Michael and I were spinning all around the floor”.
