There have been countless stories of heroism and tragedy that have come out of last weekend’s Pulse nightclub mass shooting, which saw a gunman take the lives of 49 men and women at Orlando’s gay nightclub, Pulse; however, this is one we had to share.
22-year old Juan Ramon Guerrero and 32-year old Christopher ‘Drew’ Leinonen were just two of the victims who lost their lives in America’s worst mass shooting ever and their love story needs to be recognised.
The pair had been dating and living together for two years and were madly in love, planning a Wedding together, but instead of organising a Wedding, their families are now holding a joint funeral for them.
Juan’s father told TIME about his family’s decision to hold the joint funeral through tears, “I think my son wanted to do that. That’s why. I don’t care what the people think. I don’t care.”
Juan’s sister Aryam explains the couple’s relationship, “They were honestly so in love. They were soul mates. You can tell by how they looked at each other,” she said. “It’s a little comforting that they died together. If it’s not a funeral, they were going to have a wedding together.”
In the aftermath of the attack, the hashtag #TwoMenKissing has gone viral and serves as an international defiance of homophobia.
At Wedded Wonderland, we only have one more hashtag to add – #LoveIsLove
