Olivia and Basil met on New Years Eve in Perth and from that moment on they wrote to each other like clockwork … years passed them by, thousands of words and stories were exchanged and although it was apparent there was a romantic spark, neither were openly explicit about it. Then one day, Olivia found herself on a plane to Melbourne where Basil was working, and they finally went on their first official date, eventually moved back to Perth together and the rest is history!
A spontaneous decision midway through their Perth wedding planning, feeling a little uninspired by the thought that a whole year of planning would be over at midnight, the couple made the decision to follow their hearts to Santorini and plan a three day celebration with their closest friends and family.
“It was something about the isolation and it’s sun-drenched shores, ocean that stretched on as far as the eye could see, the quaint little cobblestone pathways and relaxed balmy nights that had us so excited about exchanging vows amidst the incandescent golden light as the sun sunk into the beautifully historic Caldera,” Olivia told Wedded Wonderland.
The couple exhanged their vows in a traditional white washed, blue roof church perched on the clifftop in the heart of Imerovigli and opted for something a little different for their reception.
“We wanted somewhere our guests could take in the break-taking views for sunset but that was ideal for the party that was to follow, and found an old lighthouse-turned private villa that was in it’s original dark stone and hadn’t been whitewashed like most of the island.”
“Santorini felt so far away and you just forget about everything and are completely in the moment. The whole day felt so surreal. A golden light cast over our long table dinner set on the cliff’s edge as our guests enjoyed the view and cocktails from above. Once the sun had disappeared we joined our guests for a three course dinner followed by some greek dancing and some serious plate smashing!”
The day after the wedding the couple took their guests on a beautiful sunset recovery cruise around the island, making a few stops along the way which included the hot springs. “It was so amazing to enjoy the balmy sea air and experience the picturesque island from afar.’
Enjoy this breath-taking wedding, Fairies!
