Eli and Arj brought a taste of pure imagination to their Willy Wonka themed wedding in the heart of Sydney, at the luxurious Four Seasons Hotel. The best friends turned lovebirds met over eight years ago, sharing an instant connection built on their strikingly similar personalities and a shared sense of humor that has kept them laughing together ever since. Their journey to this magical day was nothing short of enchanting.
Arj and Eli’s engagement story reads like a modern fairytale. In 2017, Arj whisked Eli away to the city of love, Paris, under the guise of a fancy dinner date. But little did she know, he had something even more special in store. As they strolled through the elegant Place Vendome, Eli spotted a horse-drawn carriage. She asked for a quick photo before the intended passengers arrived. Little did she know, the carriage was for them!
To her surprise, a man with a top hat approached her, asking if she was “Princess Eli” and presenting her with a glass slipper engraved with her name and shoe size—Cinderella vibes all the way! The couple then embarked on a romantic ride through the rain-kissed streets of Paris, where they eventually boarded a wooden boat for a three-course meal on the Seine. It was here, under the iconic Bridge of Love, that Arj’s clever birthday proposal unfolded, complete with a shower of roses. Eli thought he was being the sweetest boyfriend, only to discover he would become the sweetest fiancé.
The wedding festivities kicked off with a vibrant Sangeet, a lively Indian pre-function that’s all about music and performances. Held aboard the Starship vessel, this event brimmed with energy as guests sang and danced the night away. Friends with Maori roots even performed the Haka, adding a unique and meaningful touch to the celebrations.
Eli and Arj, along with their friends and family, took the stage to showcase their own performance, showcasing their dancing skills and incredible teamwork. The décor was a colorful explosion of joy, featuring a swing (jhula) for those perfect photo moments. Traditional mehendi stations allowed guests to adorn themselves with intricate henna designs, and a “Ring for Service” wall added a playful touch to the evening. Indian street food stations ensured that no one went hungry during this lively celebration.
The heart of their wedding was the traditional ceremony, filled with rituals and prayers conducted by a priest in front of a sacred fire. The couple thoughtfully provided ceremony booklets to guide their guests through the meaningful moments. The night continued with delectable food, refreshing drinks, and spirited dancing.
Entertainment was a high point of the evening, with classical Indian musicians playing the sitar and tabla, accompanied by talented classical Indian dancers. Violinists and ballet dancers added a touch of elegance during the entrée. The celebrations even featured Sydney’s finest magician, Jackson Aces, who left everyone scratching their heads in amazement.
For their reception, Eli and Arj took inspiration from their favorite winter adventures in the European Alps, creating a Winter Alpine theme. Given that their wedding took place during Sydney’s wintertime, it felt like a fitting choice. Guests enjoyed live food stations offering hot chocolate, mulled wine, and the couple’s beloved raclette—a melted cheese delight paired with potatoes, charcuterie, and pickles.
Tables adorned with white and nude florals added an air of elegance, and the couple went the extra mile by donating all the flowers to local old age homes after the event. Their attention to detail extended to the adorable place cards, which were engraved wooden logs, perfectly in sync with their theme.
Eli and Arj’s outfits were a testament to their style and tradition. Both dressed in custom-made creations, their outfits reflected their personalities and love for tradition.
Despite their busy schedules and overseas travels, they managed to plan their dream wedding in just seven months, pouring their hearts into every detail.
While every moment of their wedding was special, Eli and Arj’s favorite moment was when they transformed into Willy Wonka and unveiled the games area to their guests. Their wedding was a reflection of their personalities, a day where laughter, love, and a touch of magic reigned supreme.
