A Melbourne event stylist reveals her top planning tips

Wedded Wonderland spoke to Elise from Lopre Events, who recently styled this Parisian baby shower for a former Bachelor star, about her work, planning tips and upcoming style trends.

What type of event planning and styling do you specialise in?

We specialize in weddings and personal events such as birthdays, Holy occasions and milestones, however, we would also love the opportunity to work on corporate events.

How did you get into event planning and styling?

I have always had a passion for transforming spaces into beautiful settings, especially within my home. Once I had children and started planning and styling their events, I found that I had a strong love and excitement for styling which then led me to pursue it as a career.

I am also studying a Diploma in Wedding Planning Styling and Design with the Australian Academy of Wedding and Event Planning so I am able to provide all my clients with the best knowledge.

What has been your most memorable event to style so far?

I would have to say The Ethereal Forest Christening. The ambience within that space was something I will never forget. All the natural elements of foliage and earthy tones created a spiritual and peaceful setting which transported you into a visual forest.

From the stunning centrepieces to the place cards, every element of this event had meaning and no detail was overlooked. It was not your typical Christening yet it still represented the Holy sacrament.

How involved are you in the planning styling process?

The key to a successful event is to ensure there is a cohesive look and feel throughout all the elements. In order to achieve that it is vital that planners/stylists are involved from the very beginning. This gives us the opportunity and time to develop a concept that is reflective of the client’s personality. At Lopre Events, we would love to plan the entire event from budget management, sourcing venues, booking vendors etc however we are also happy to just manage and coordinate the styling elements. It’s completely up to our clients’ requests.

When should clients start searching for their event planner or stylist?

We recommend booking a planner/stylist for your Wedding as soon as the date is locked in. This allows you enough time to meet with various planners and gauge who you feel is best for you. It also allows your planner or stylist to develop your concept and work on custom elements for your big day that can take time to develop and produce.

With birthdays and special events, a smaller time frame is workable. Three months lead time is ideal.

What are some of the things couples should look for when choosing a wedding stylist?

I think the number one thing is to ensure you have a connection with your planner/stylist. It is so important you have a great relationship with them and feel comfortable enough to discuss your needs and wants. You will be speaking with your planner/stylist more than most your friends, therefore, choose wisely.

Also, don’t be afraid to ask questions, this is like a job interview after all. Questions such as; Do they have certifications? How many wedding clients are they currently working with? Do they have insurance? All these questions are relevant.

What do you see as the biggest upcoming trends in events?

Clients are now investing more money in the table settings to ensure their tablescapes look picture perfect, and are now appreciating the details in cutlery, crockery and linen.

Decals are quite on-trend at the moment as they are so versatile. It is a cost-effective way to personalize your event, they can be added to most surfaces such as dance floors, mirrors, walls and décor items

Do you have any styling recommendations?

Be unique! Invest in a stylist so they are able to bring their creativity and produce a unique design that is bespoke to you. You may choose a concept that has been done before, however, a great stylist will be able to execute it differently.

Do you just work in Melbourne or interstate as well?

At this stage we are only Melbourne based however we would love to expand our business interstate in the near future.
