Why are celebrities getting married in secret?

It seems celebrities are continuing with the covid trend of eloping or microweddings, and we’re wondering WHYYYYY. We want the big dress, the wedding, the flowers, the EXTRAVAGANZAAAAA but we get it. Sometimes planning a wedding for us common folk is all too much, imagine being a celebrity, particularly one that has come under scrutiny for her nuptials. Y’all know we’re talking about JLO.

1. Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck recently Wedded in Vegas

“Bennifer” is back, baby, and after their first very public engagement and break up, can you blame them for a secret wedding? Plus, they had the most glamorous and fabulous honeymoon. Perhaps the trick here is a micro-wedding with a budget going towards a honeymoon? We know a few of you are thinking the same thing!

2. Taika Waititi and Rita Ora

It has been reported that Taia and Rita are secretly Wedded. Sources claim Taika and Rita Wed in London, with a joyous occasion. Quoting the Sun UK “it was a really intimate ceremony and super special for everyone there. Their nearest and dearest can see how madly in love they are”. The union has yet to be formally announced, and y’all know we’re stalking insta to see the dress!

3. Lindsay Lohan and Bader Shammas

A representative for Lindsay broke the news in July 2022, that the actress and Shammas have secretly wed. They announced their engagement in November 2021. We are SO HAPPY to hear Lindsay is happy!

Other celebrities that have secretly wed are Anna Faris and Michael Barrett in July 2021, our favourite spice girl (ok for some) Emma Bunton and Jade Jones on June 2021, who can forget Princess Beatrice and Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi in July 2020, Ariana Grande and Dalton Gomez in 2021 and Scarlett Johansson and Colin Jost in October 2020.

For some, secret Weddings were a result of the global pandemic, and wanting to proceed with getting Wedded. For others, this option has seemed more suitable and aligned with their goals, their relationship and their love. We love a big Wedding (you know it!) but we are also here for all celebrations of love, and truly believe doing it your way will always work in your favour!
