This Bride’s Mother In Law Made Her Dress

Shaira and Adrian wedded not once… But TWICE! The couple chose to honour both of their cultures; an Indian wedding and Church ceremony followed by a reception with the people that mean the absolute most to them.

The Proposal

When the time came for a proposal, they had already been together for about 5 years. All of Adiran’s family, and their friends were always making jokes about when he would propose.

His proposal ended up being so beautiful and casual. She had booked a canoeing experience for Adrian and herself in the harbour which is something Shaira had wanted to do for ages.

After canoeing and breakfast, Adrian had asked Shaira to go look at the view at the top of Mrs Macquarie’s Chair which she thought was odd because they were literally just canoeing in the exact spot down below.

“As I was looking at the view, I felt a weird butterfly feeling in my stomach and turned around and saw him there on one knee! I was so just so excited and overwhelmed. He’d even organised a photographer to take photos, the lovely Nicole who took photos throughout our wedding celebrations,” Shaira told Wedded Wonderland.

The Wedding

The most unique part of their wedding was the amalgamation of their two cultures fusing. The Hindu wedding was full of food, dancing and colour! This was a much smaller and more intimate celebration with only their closest friends and family. The church and reception wedding that they celebrated on the 24th of April was one of the most special days and nights of their lives. All of the styling and creations were planned and created by very close friends and family. Everyone meaningful to Shaira and Adrian played a bigger part than just being a guest on their special day. From hair and make-up to florals, everyone involved have a deep and meaningful relationship with the couple.

Back when Shaira had first started dating Adrian, she had found out that Pia (her mother-in-law) used to be a wedding dress maker before she had Adrian. In Shaira and Adrian’s early years of dating, she and Pia would share future wedding dress ideas, laughing and dreaming of what could be until she said in full seriousness ‘would you like me to make your wedding dress one day?’ obviously there was no other answer but YES! How many brides can say that their MIL made their dress?

From the moment Pia drew up the first designs, Shaira fell in love. Pia knew exactly what would work for her style and body. The most exciting part of this process for Shaira was choosing the fabrics and finding that perfect calico colour.

Advice from the Bride

“There’s truly nothing I would change for my wedding day or planning. I think it’s so important to just enjoy the process, you spend so much time making sure everything is perfect and will go well but by the time the day comes it just happens so quickly you forget the planning time. I think it’s important to just enjoy every moment in the lead up and on the day. Everyone around you wants to make sure you have a special day and there’s really no need to stress!

I do wish though that I had a few more photos with my family and my extended family. I feel like I did not get a lot of photos with my family and I would have loved to have more.

Another thing I found that worked so well was having a photographer and videographer who had worked together before. Mark Jay, Christian and their team were honestly the best team we could have asked for. Taking photos and videos just felt so natural and fun! They really are the best duo, the dream team!,” Shaira

Fairies, be inspired by this beautiful fusion of cultures!
