One of the proudest and most anticipated days in a mother’s life is the day her daughter gets married. It is the one day that every mother wants to both look her absolute best and see her daughter shine the brightest. So if there’s someone besides your groom who should feel extra special on your wedding day, it’s your mum.
She’s been there from the start and has experienced firsthand all your ups and downs. From your first crush and crazy teenage hormones, to helping you nurse a broken heart and finally now to finding the one. The woman has seen it all – the good, the bad and the very ugly. You need remember that your special day is just as important to her and she deserves to not only look but feel great.
But everyone gets so caught up in fussing over the bride that poor mum gets forgotten. And when you really think about it, she and your father are probably the most important guests at your wedding. After all, if it wasn’t for them, your wedding day wouldn’t exist! Try not to think about that last point too much…
So in honour of all our amazing, superhero mums we’ve put together a list of things you can do before and on the day of your wedding. They’re all guaranteed to make her feel like a million bucks.
Hair and make-up
If you’re hiring a hair and make-up artist for you and your bridesmaids, it’s always a nice gesture to include your mum in the booking. She’ll be run off her feet arranging the formalities that she probably won’t have time to sit down to do her own hair and make-up. But, it’s important to brief the hair and make-up artists so they’re aware of your mum’s preferred look. If she’s a natural beauty and doesn’t wear much make-up, let them know. This means they won’t overboard and she ends up feeling like Dolly Parton.
Her outfit
If you’ve spoken to any mother of the bride, they’ll be the first to tell you how hard it was to find the right outfit for the wedding. Take the time to go shopping with her and enjoy your day together. Help her find something she’s really comfortable in and shows off her personal style. If your mums are anything like ours, she’ll probably think that this is just your day. Encourage her to splurge too – you want her to look fabulous as well!
Nails
Invite your mum along to have a mani and pedi with the girls before the wedding. Or to make it even more special, arrange a time where it will just be the two of you. It’s one less thing she’ll have to worry about on the day and will enjoy being pampered. If she does come with all the girls, she’ll also appreciate being included in the girly activities.
Skin
As a surprise why not book her in for a facial or skincare treatment before the wedding? Something as simple as an hour facial or body massage can make all the difference in making her feel fresh and rejuvenated. It’s those little gestures that tell her how much you appreciate everything she’s done for you as well as how grateful you are for the constant support. It also couldn’t hurt to go along. You know, just to make sure she likes it.
If you can’t afford to do all these, even just doing one of them will help make your mum feel special. Because at the end of the day, it’s the thought that counts.
