Stunning Desert Maternity Photoshoot

There are few things more beautiful in life than pregnancy – well, except for a maternity photoshoot in the heart of an American desert. Married photographers behind business Siempre, Cristina and Shayben organised their trip to the United States last year not knowing that they would soon fall pregnant with their first child. Luckily for the soon-to-be parents, Cristina was still able to travel, with the couple declaring their holiday a babymoon.

“We believe all life events should be captured professionally so we can remember these beautiful moments forever,” Cristina told Wedded Wonderland.

“For our engagement, we did a shoot at the snow, so for my maternity shoot we thought to do the complete opposite. We were staying in Los Angeles and found a state park called Red Rock Canyon which was about an hour and a half drive away. We woke up at 4am, got ready and headed to the location in time for sunrise.”

The finished result is spectacular, with a colour scheme of gentle purples, hazy oranges and glowing gold softly blanketing the harshness of the desert.

“I really liked that is was just us two (or three) in the middle of nowhere, it was so peaceful. It really felt like we were the only people in this world,” recounted Cristina. “The location itself was absolutely beautiful, unlike anything we had seen before and it was so lovely to watch the sunrise there.”

And the shoot itself? “It was great…For me. I just stood where I was told, Shayben had to run back and forth to the tripod to set up the shot, which wasn’t easy and not what any of our shoots are usually like.”

“It was a nice change of scenery, for our engagement session I was only in a dress in the snow so I was frozen, so weather wise, I much preferred this location.”

“This was also the reason we decided to do the shoot at sunrise. It was going to reach almost 40 degrees at the canyon that day so we thought we would miss most of the heat if we started very early, which luckily we did. I probably would not have enjoyed the shoot as much if it was in that heat.”

She went on to describe to us about how magical of an experience it was to be with Shayben in the middle of nowhere, with the peace of secluded oasis making the couple feel like they were the only two in the world, while also giving a few pointers on what to do during a maternity photo shoot.

“I think one of the most important things to keep in mind during a Maternity shoot is to try and relax and feel beautiful. It isn’t easy feeling fabulous when you’re 7-8 months pregnant and uncomfortable most of the time but just try to enjoy the moment and show your belly some love.”

Congratulations to the happy couple and we look forward to seeing baby Moussa’s phootshoot in October!
