Our Fave Holiday Rom Coms


The Christmas season calls for snuggling up on the couch and going through your list of lighthearted, hilarious, and sometimes even cheesy (we love cheese!) holiday rom coms. From classic tales of love and redemption to modern stories of finding love during the most wonderful time of the year, holiday romantic comedies have a special place in our hearts.

Here we’ll be sharing some of our favourite holiday rom coms that are sure to put you in the holiday spirit. So grab some Christmas cookies and hot cocoa and get ready to laugh, cry, and swoon along with these festive films.

Love, Actually (2003)

The classic of the classics. This movie follows the lives of several couples in the lead-up to Christmas.  From rockstars and Prime Ministers to widows and best friends who unexpectedly fall for their friend’s spouse, this classic romantic comedy has it all. With its interconnected storylines and heartwarming themes, it’s no wonder “Love Actually” has become a holiday favourite.

The Holiday (2006)

This one is about unexpected love and the transformative power of a change in scenery. One woman, a Hollywood film trailer editor, takes residence in a picturesque English village, while the other, a British newspaper columnist, moves into a luxurious Hollywood mansion. With charming performances by Cameron Diaz and Kate Winslet and a heartwarming story of love and self-discovery, this film will surely put you in the holiday spirit.

Elf (2003)

Elf may not be the first holiday romantic comedy that comes to mind, but it certainly has all the elements of a classic love story and it’s great for the whole family too! From the awkward first meeting to the cute montage of a first date, the film follows Buddy’s romance with Jovi as they navigate the joys and challenges of falling in love. It is a charming holiday romantic comedy that will have you believing in the magic of love and the holiday season.

Love Hard (2021)

Love Hard is a modern-day holiday love story. It shows us the realities of online dating and the unexpected love that can grow from it. This one’s about a woman who travels to surprise her online match for Christmas, only to discover that she’s been catfished. Despite the lack of romance at first, the slow-burn romance between the two leads hits all the emotional beats of a romantic comedy, culminating in a sweet grand gesture. This heartwarming film is the ideal choice for anyone looking for a festive and feel-good love story.

Single All the Way (2021)

Initially planning to pretend to be boyfriends, Peter gets swept up in dating a local his mom set him up with. This happens when Nick discovers his true feelings for Peter. As they navigate the chaos of the holiday season and their complicated feelings, Peter and Nick learn that love can be found in the most unexpected of places. As Netflix’s first gay Christmas movie, it’s a refreshing and unique addition to the holiday rom com genre.

Holidate (2021)

Being single during the holidays is kind of lonely, but it’s especially worse when your parents keep pestering you about it. This is why Sloane and Jackson agree to be each other’s holiday plus ones for the year. With its cute and sometimes frustrating romance, “Holidate” plays into the beloved miscommunication trope of the romantic comedy genre. If you’re in the mood for a charming and flirty holiday rom coms, “Holidate” is a perfect choice.

The Princess Switch (2018)
