My Big Fat Greek Wedding actress Nia Vardalos has filed for divorce after almost 25 years of marriage to actor Ian Gomez.

The pair has been separated for over a year and cites irreconcilable differences as the reason for their split. They have applied for joint custody of their 11-year-old daughter.

“We’ve been respectfully separated for a lengthy period of time. Our relationship became a friendship so the decision to end the marriage is completely mutual and amicable,” the couple told to E! News.

The couple’s love story was an inspiration for the hit film which Vardalos both wrote and starred in. Just like the movie (we’re sure you’re familiar with the plot), Nia fell in love with a non-Greek man as Gomez is of Russian Jewish and Puerto Rico decent.

A pot plant is not going to be enough to fix the hole in our hearts.
