MAKEUP TIPS EVERY MOTHER OF THE BRIDE MUST KNOW

Mother’s are beautiful, both with and without make-up. On her daughter’s special day every Mother of the Bride wants to look and feel her absolute best, and we spoke with Sarah from Sarah-Marie Makeup who filled us in on some amazing tips and the makeup do’s and dont’s.

What are your top Mother of the Bride makeup tips?

Before anything, skincare is very important. I recommend mothers begin prepping their skin a few months ahead of the big day. A great treatment I would recommend is a hydra-facial, which combines cleansing, exfoliation, extraction, hydration and antioxidant protection, resulting in clear, beautiful skin with no discomfort or downtime.

Also, every Mother of the Bride should carry around powder and lipstick in her purse for touch-ups throughout the day.

For eye-makeup, neutral browns are best, as opposed to a harsh black.

What is trending at the moment with Mother of the Bride makeup?

i feel as though mums are moving away from the natural look, towards more dramatic makeup. Mother’s of the Bride used to always ask me to apply soft, natural looking makeup, but these days I am being asked the opposite, which is always fun!

What are the biggest mistakes Mothers of the Bride make with makeup?

Applying matte foundation to dry skin, going for both a strong eye and lip, and applying eye shadow in the wrong areas of the eye are the biggest mistakes I’ve seen.

Should everyone use false lashes?

No. Some eye shapes, particularly those which have hooded skin that creases over the lash line, largely as a result of ageing, should avoid a full set of false lashes and instead opt for individual lashes.

What are the best foundation types for mature skin?

A semi-matte type is the best option, and the texture should always be creamy.

What sort of skin and beauty routine should a Mother of the Bride get into before the big day?

The Mother of the Bride should steer clear of trying new products right before the big day, in-case her skin reacts badly to the product. I recommend starting a routine 6 months prior to the wedding, including facials and skin peels once a month.
