In a city full of iconic venues, few weddings have turned heads like Rachelle Tannous and Mitchell Leto’s wedding at Sydney Town Hall. Dubbed “The Wed Gala,” the celebration was a glamorous fusion of fashion, lighting, culture, and unforgettable moments that left guests speechless and Instagram feeds flooded.
From the beginning, Rachelle had a vision: “We just wanted it to be a big vibe,” she shared on the Get Wedded in Wonderland podcast with Wendy El-Khoury. Traditional? Not quite. Memorable? Absolutely.
Forget booking florals first. Rachelle flipped the planning script. “I booked the entertainment and lighting before anything else,” she explained. “It was the vibe first.”
Sydney Town Hall is known for its regal, historic ambiance. But for Rachelle, lighting was non-negotiable.
“I knew that by booking the Town Hall, I could create an atmosphere and a vibe with the lighting. That was the most important thing to me,” she said.
With help from Jay Productions, the lighting transformed the grand hall into a cinematic wonderland. It was giving drama, lights, grandeur and it didn’t just illuminate the space – it redefined it.
A showstopper in every sense, the 25-metre banner emblazoned with “Leto Love” wasn’t part of the original plan. In fact, Rachelle almost said no.
“They came to us with the concept, and I was like, hell no,” she admitted. (PS: Hear the entire riveting story here!)
But her stylists at Renvoy saw the vision through. “They kept pushing it, getting quotes, sketching it. They knew they weren’t going to take no for an answer,” Rachelle recalled. The result? A banner that became the moment. Raised to the ceiling, it was bold, cinematic, and very “Met Gala” – hence the wedding’s apt nickname.
Rachelle and Mitchell knew entertainment would set the tone. Their unconventional choice? Sax and Cello – a Melbourne-based married duo.
“They weren’t just musicians, they were performers,” she said. The pair played two electric sets that became the emotional and energetic centerpiece of the evening.
Drums added a cross-cultural vibe to the couple’s Lebanese-Italian-Australian mix, along with DJ Sabio, who “kept the vibe” flowing all night. “I didn’t want a boring wedding,” Rachelle said. “My biggest fear was that it would be boring.”
From the bridal table to the dance floor, everything was built for connection. Instead of a traditional elevated bridal stage, Rachelle and Mitchell chose to sit among their closest family and friends at a custom steel-built U-shaped king’s table.
“Why would I want to go up on a stage?” Rachelle questioned. “I want to be a part of my wedding.”
The dance floor was central, literally, so everyone felt part of the action. It was about inclusivity, energy, and atmosphere – not hierarchy.
While most weddings end with cake, this one ended with a custom-built champagne tower – a non-negotiable from the groom.
“Mitch’s only request was a champagne tower,” Rachelle laughed. Styled atop a steel block, it wasn’t just a toast; it was a moment.
As more couples ditch traditional cakes for baklava towers, cheese wheels, and luxe alternatives, Rachelle and Mitchell’s tower proves: there’s no rulebook when it comes to celebration.
Rachelle wore a fitted Galia Lahav gown with a detachable skirt, found during a trunk show at Helen Rodriguez.
“I never thought I’d wear a fitted dress,” she said. “But when I tried it on, it felt like me.”
Hair prep? Strategic. Her signature half-up look was chosen the morning of the wedding. “I didn’t cut my hair for six months,” she laughed. The only regret? Not going with the hooded veil. “I was kind of sad I didn’t do it. But it did not fit the vibe of my dress.”
“Honestly, my favourite thing was just the energy that everyone brought,” Rachelle said. “It was the atmosphere. Everyone was having a good time.”
This wasn’t just a wedding. It was a fashion-forward, culturally rich, immersive experience that redefined what a grand wedding in Sydney can look like.
